Ghost In The Shell Game Detailed 22

Thanks to The Magic Box for new screenshots and details of Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, as the PlayStation 2 "action shooter", developed by Drag-on Dragoon creators Cavia in conjunction with Production I.G., the makers of the original Ghost In The Shell anime movie and the new GITS: Stand Alone Complex TV show, gets an official Japanese site and brief ASX trailer video. This third-person shooter, unrelated in gameplay to an earlier Ghost In The Shell title for PlayStation 1, has you battling against "illicit arms trades, and... terrorists", and will debut in Japan in March 2004, with a U.S. release as yet unconfirmed.

...is this game gonna have that stacked chick from the movie in it? I know she was a cyborg and all but I'd still want to 'interface' with her, if you get my meaning. There's nothing more sexy than a hot, sexy, curvy chick who shoots guns and is actually a cyborg.

you may want to actually go outside and look around. Guess what's out there? WOMEN!!! Women you can actually touch, and not on video!

Um, this is slashdot we're talking about here. I'd be careful about assuming that we could ever hope to touch these real-life women.

    • "There's nothing more sexy than a hot, sexy, curvy chick who shoots guns and is actually a cyborg."

      Nothing?

Ah, well, the internet is full of weird fetishes, so I shouldn't be surprised.
  • The screenshots look cool. I hope there will be a versionb for the Nintendo Gamcube.

I seem to remember Bungie saying that Ghost in the Shell was a large part of the inspiration for 'Oni' (which happens to be one of my all time favorite games). Oni was also an action-shooter (with most of the emphasis on martial arts) and from the screen shots, this new game looks kinda similar. Then again, who can tell from still screens...

  • The Ghost in the Shell game on the Playstation was pretty good, you cruised around in the Fuchikomas (the 4-legged tanks from the manga) and blew stuff up. The Fuchikomas could also go up walls and stick to ceilings which was pretty neat.
  • Just in case you missed it, there was a version of Ghost In The Shell for Playstation (PSX) [gamespot.com]. It's a good game and worth checking out. For some reason, it didn't get much attention so you'll have to check your local used video game store or pay the premium to get a copy on eBay [ebay.com].
    • ARGH! I hate that. I start a post and by the time I hit Submit, someone has made a similar post rendering mine redundant. Oh well.

BTW, I have jpegs (4) of the pages from the Ghost in the Shell manga that were deleted before publication in the U.S. (they were deemed to racey). If you want them (and you're over 18) drop me a line and I'll send you a URL.

The game looks promising, but the description reads like a bad fortune cookie.

    From the article:
"The game is an action shooter, your mission is to chases the truth of the illicit arms trades"

  • You get to play as Motoko and Batou??! Wow it would be cool if we could also control the tachikomas.. I would love to have this game over here.
