smithtuna33 writes "As of today there is a teaser up for Duke Nukem Forever at 3dRealms. It's up on Youtube as well, since the site is already slow. Not much actual game-play, but still ... might this game actually see the light of day after so much talk?" 1up, GameTrailers, and Voodoo Extreme have it too.

Entertainment: Wired's 2007 Vaporware Awards 195 comments
Braedley sends word that Wired's annual vaporware list is up, and a number of products this community has discussed made the cut. The top spot, the position of most dishonor, was almost a foregone conclusion. "Another December, another list, another crowning achievement by the Emperor of the Ethereal, the Head Honcho of Hype, Duke Nukem Forever. We were going to disqualify him out of pity, but Sir Duke is back for 2007 thanks to a few leaked screenshots and an overwhelming number of votes. DNF creators 3D Realms even chose this week to debut a well-publicized video trailer for Duke's long-awaited return. Alas, a trailer is not a game, so — long live the king!"

Duke Nukem Forever 'Confirmed' For Late 2008 344 comments
An anonymous reader writes "A Dallas newspaper is claiming that the long-in-development title Duke Nukem Forever is headed for retail release in late 2008. Unfortunately, game creator 3D Realms says that's not exactly what they meant. 'What the modest Texas newspaper actually seems to suggest is that 3D Realms is "on target" to release the mythical sequel sometime this year, though company president Scott Miller adds, "we may miss the mark by a month or two" (wink, wink). Miller also hinted that "hitting the big three" (in this case, PC, Xbox 360 and PS3) is the obvious development strategy, but he continued to stress that 3D Realms has not "formally announced any platforms for DNF."'"

Yeah I'm not jumping to that conclusion based on a cut-scene. There have been more complete trailers than that in years (many years) past. I'm sure not giving them the benefit of the doubt now. Still 100% vapor as far as I'm concerned.
Of course even if they did actually ship the game tomorrow, future comparisons to Duke Nukem would still imply a delay of over ten years, a lifetime in gaming.

I would have been much happier with some actual footage of somebody playing, or a tech demo movie.
I can't imagine that they're going to be able to turn a profit on it after all the years they've spent working on it. Daikatana was only in development for 3 years or so behind schedule, and suffered severely for it. 3DRealms could do better if they at least manage to release the first version in a mostly bug free package.
And of course I too label this one vaporware until I can actually download a demo.

All you need to do is enjoy the all-out fun of shooting an RPG into a teleporter or, and I so wish SOMEONE would reintroduce it, leave a bunch of pipe-bombs out in multi-player to appreciate just how much fun this game really was.
Running up to try and pick up a pipe-bomb before the other guy(s) detonated... what a great concept.

I have yet to find something more satisfying than sending an elevator full of pipebombs at an unsuspecting player.

If it's a good game, people will care. If it's not, people won't. Really, what difference does it make how long it took to develop?
With all the rewrites, this is really Duke 7 anyway, with Duke 4-6 just not getting released.

It'll be about details. Mostly humorous.
There will be strippers you can pay, and rob. There will be pool-tables with semi-realistic billiard ball physics. There will be sinks you can smash and urinals you can piss in (and you'll gain health for this for some reason).
You won't be stuck some place with a 2-inch curb you can't climb over to keep you in. Instead, the map boundaries will seem reasonable. Or at least, physical. You might still question why someone built a building across a four-lane street...
And there will be genre-jokes. Perhaps there will even be an arcade with a working version of Ms. Astro Chicken or something, to which Duke makes some comment about it taking so long to come out and not being worth the wait.

Er... As another poster brought up, this was a video for a company Christmas party. Give it a break. Secondly, it IS the same voice actor. Thirdly, it's not CGI, it clearly comes out of the engine (look at the horrible normal mapping on Duke's pants). Fourth, it's got gameplay, albeit not a lot of it, but you can see a fair bit of in-engine in-game shots.
I don't get why the Slashdot groupthink is trashing this. It's been vaporware for way too long, I for one look forward to the possibility that it will get taken off the vaporware list in the foreseeable future.
