Space Invaders Controller Reborn 8

An anonymous reader writes "Fashioned in the style of the original cocktail machine, the limited-edition 'table top' controller for the PlayStation 2's 25th anniversary Japanese re-issue of Taito's Space Invaders is a miniature recreation of the actual arcade game, and includes a knob controller for maneuvering the cannon, plus a single red button for firing. Sign me up - I loved this game!"

    • Very amusing. Now I'm going to be going nuts at work all day trying to work out where on earth I've heard that before. Perhaps someone can enlighten me?

On another note, and this follows on from a story [slashdot.org] the other day (or month) I commented on, I can never understand people wanting to play these games. The most common reason stated is 'gameplay', with people complaining about lack of gameplay in today games.

*sigh* I won't repeat what I said (much more) just click on what I wrote [slashdot.org] last time... if it at al
  • Here's the original link. [ncsx.org] NCSX is great for digging up these nuggets and selling them to collectors. And there are more than three of us.
  • is that really a full sized cabinet? Size is at a premium in Japan, where would someone put that? Are you going to need your own tv to put in it? It's hard enough finding a place to put an X-Box... idunno, I'm confused about this.

It doesn't say how much it costs, either. Also, I wonder if the cabinet has the coloured overlay on it.
  • Found this site [gamecabinetsinc.com] the other day, not bought anything off them, too poor atm, but worth a look if you fancy your own. I want a table one to use as a coffee table :)
  • Back when it originally came out, I only ever played Space Invaders using 3 buttons (left, right, and shoot). I never even knew there was an arcade model with a joystick until now (as one of the links indicates, the Taito version had a joystick; the Midway version only had buttons). I think I prefer the buttons, but probably only because that's what I was used to.
  • Now only if they would put Steel Battalion [capcom.com] into a table top...
  • The Disk of Tron should be easy, but the original Tron could be a pain. What I REALLY want is someone to come up with a decent full size joystick setup so we can play Cybersled and T-Mech (my favorite) The name of the fighting mech game setup like this escapes my memory, but I liked it to.

With your bare hands?!?

Working...
