Tokyo Game Show Titles Trailed 11

Thanks to Gamers.com for their massive list of all the games showing at the Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off on September 26th in Japan. The list "...omits whatever games that companies are saving as surprises for the show", including the widely-rumored Kingdom Hearts 2 from Square Enix, but highlights include Astro Boy and the Altered Beast remake from Sega, the new Front Mission titles from Square Enix, the wacky Mojib Ribbon and mech-heavy Chain Dive from Sony, as well as Capcom's wholesale licensing of notable Western titles, adding the Sony-created Mark Of Kri, The Getaway, and War Of The Monsters to their already-released Grand Theft Auto.

  • ...it [the list] omits games that are a bit too obscure to be of interest to an American audience, and/or very difficult to correctly translate...
Personally, I'm interested to see what was left off. They put Pop'n Music 9 on the list; if *that* wasn't too obscure, then I wonder just what does qualify as too obscure (besides GetBackers and Joe whatever).

(On a completely unrelated note, natch, I believe GameFAQs listed Pop'n Music as actually having had a U.S. release for PS1 way, way back. Anyone know?)
    • Pop 'N Music never got a US release, sadly - I'm pretty sure about that, though you're right, it is listed on GameFAQs. For those who haven't seen it, it's a Beatmania-style game [intensegames.com] with a weird 9-button controller. I think it was aimed at a more female audience in Japan, and also works good with 2 people at one arcade cabinet. It's good fun, though.
  • ...as I never really have a clue what has a Japanese release and what's US only. Mark of Kri, for example, I'm surprised hasn't had a Japanese release until now. I know it was developed in the US, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. My general impression is that most games are released in Japan first, but I may need to change that to "most games I want" get released there first. "Wow, that looks neat, and I'll never see that here. Nor that. Nor that. Nor that." Nice to see that for once a rea

I'd just thought I'd throw my recommendation for anyone looking for a good, (probably) budget title.

It is short, but it nicely mixed the combat with stealth. Though it was short, I felt it was one of those titles that was pleasantly short. Controls are very intuitive, sort of. You have to get over button mashing syndrome with fighters or shooters. The combos rely on timing and they really are awesome and not difficult. There was just enough to unlock to keep me busy and then I moved on to the next ti

They better not mess up the dialogue too much. I will not play it unless at the beginning that old dude with the beard says " I command you to rise from your grave, and rescue my daughter".

Being an owner of this fantastic game, I personally can't wait to get my hands on Mojib Ribbon.

Although I do have to agree. Most people would find Vib Ribbon far too strange of a game to be played here. The game is based on the music of the CD that you currently have in the playstation. One of my favorites was Ministry - Jesus Built My Hot Rod. Man, you wanna talk about a face paced song.. whew. You don't get much faster than that.
