Star Wars - Knights of The Old Republic PC Gold! 53

Cobol Junky writes "After many months of development, the PC version of Star Wars:Knights Of The Old Republic has finally been finished. KOTOR for the Xbox has been a huge success, and the PC version will most definitely do just as well. Expect it to be on store shelves Tuesday, November 18th." This was among my favorite Xbox titles to date. I'll probably snag a copy just to replay it on the light side, and at high res.

I played the Xbox version and it was a fantastic experience!
I've been a huge fan of BioWare for their Neverwinter Nights game. The fact that it has a Linux client was a huge selling point. I hope KOTOR for the PC has a Linux client as well.
    • I've finished now on the light side (such a nerd), and I'm now playing it on the dark side. So cool. Only up to Dantooine and I already have Lightning and 'Choke'.
Probably my favourite game story-wise ever. Game play can get a little slow, but the story and dialogue more than makes up for it.

Some people just have too much money to throw around.. buy me a copy!

I played the x-box version for all of five minutes, then stuck it at the bottom of the pile, just above Blood Wake, never to be played again.

It just didnt catch my eye. As such a PC convert will be even less attractive.
    • Most RGPs tend to suck if you only play them for 5 mins ... but how people you know that play RGPs for 5mins ? Also this is the easist RGP to play & satifies most gamers abroad & somewhat hardcore at the same time. The shear scale of such an idea must have frightened you.
      • Morrowind caught me quicker, Baulders Gate caught me quicker, online MUDs caught me quicker, heck so did pen and paper.

I didn't really like the interface, but as it was such a short time I wasn't going to hold that against it (yet). I just really didnt care what happened to the charecter. Combat was also stuningly unapealing.

Man, Taco, if it's taking you this long to finish "Enter the Matrix", how did you ever have time to play through KOTOR?

    (Hint: Update your list!)
  • because this means that now the Xbox live updates will have started development. There is to be a new planet added and I think it is in the PC version. The extras (unsure what else) will be released on Xbox soon.

KOTOR is a fucking legendary game. ironically.
  • Does this game have multiplayer support?
    • Nope. They were worried it would eat into Galaxies I think, so no multiplayer.

Of course, GTA doesn't have multiplayer either, and rocks hard. (Yes yes, I know some group have hacked a multiplayer mod. Doesn't count.)
  • I loved KOTOR for the XBox. Until...

I was hit by the dreaded "Carth" Bug and I didn't keep enough saves to get around it. 27 hours down the drain. Hello eBay.

Hope they fixed that bug in the PC version.

KOTOR PC requirements are stated as 4.0 GB of free space.

To put that into perspective, NWN plus its expansion pack, which comes on 4 CDs total, installs only to about 2.6 GB. This likely means that KOTOR will come on something like 6 CDs.

I wish somebody would have the balls to start releasing these games on DVDs.

    • Possibly some of that space is to account for virtual memory on systems with the minimum RAM required. It wouldn't be the first time I've seen the box state a much larger drive space requirement then it actually installs to, just to have all bases covered.
    • A few games ARE only coming out on DVD (Metal Gear Solid II: Substance for example), but if they want to sell more than a handful of copies, they need to get it out on CD.

I know a LOAD of people who warezed MGS, simply because they don't have a DVD drive. (And the old argument "Well buy one, they're cheap" is garbage. That's like having to buy a new CD player just to play one album you want, and you won't use for anything else.)

If you replace your CD-ROM drive with a DVD-ROM drive then you're set, and you will use it (though probably mostly for CDs).

        • What you don't seem to understand is not everyone can afford to splash out on a new DVD drive just for ONE FUCKING TITLE! Sure, when, say, 20% of games are shipping on DVD, it's possibly a valid argument, but for ONE TITLE, asking someone to shell out almost as much again on new hardware as they did on a game just to play the title is ridiculous.

You also approach things from the biased US perspective. Sure, a drive in the US may be that cheap, but consider other countries where the exchange rate is poor. Y

Does anyone find it strange how little hype KOTOR has been getting? I only own a PS2 and a PC... I had actually considered getting an X-Box just to play it. About two weeks ago I was in EB and I asked one of the sales people when it was coming out for PC, and he said "oh, that's just an internet rumor...". I asked if he could double check for me, and to his surprise he said it was coming out in November. It's not even on the front of EB Games Website [ebgames.com].

I'm frankly very shocked that such a highly critically acclaimed game, initially viewed as being X-Box exclusive, is receiving so little advertising this close to it's ship date. With so many quality games released this month, I'm baffled. Star Wars games usually sell okay just because of the name, let alone ones that have been this well received.

Because it is one of the xbox's best games and will most likely still sell a lot more copies.

Once word gets out that you no longer have to buy an xbox to play it or that a better version is coming out for the pc, people won't buy the xbox version.
  • The deciding factor for me purchasing KoTOR is whether or not it is ported to Linux. It is based on the NWN engine, so it would be a snap to port, but BioWare needs LucasArts to OK it, and LucasArts won't. Why? Because LucasArts plays up to that other OS company for some reason. If I see Linux support, I will buy it. If not, not.
  • The biggest problem is that it comes out the same day as the sequal to secret weapon of the luftwaft.

But after playing star wars galaxies I need a game with a star wars feel.
