inotocracy writes " The next 3DMark benchmarking application has been released. 3DMark 05 weighs in at about 280mb (give or take) and is sure to bring your system to its knee's." Thanks also to Steve for the article taking a look at the new version.

  • Minimum System Recommendations

x86 compatible processor with SSE support, 2GHz
    512MB of RAM
1.5GB of free hard disk space
Windows® 2000/XP with the latest updates & Service Packs
    DirectX®9.0c or later
DirectX®9.0 compliant graphics adapter that has 128MB of memory and is capable of PixelShader 2.0 or higher
    Microsoft® Internet Explorer 6

So dya think this'll run ok on my 486?

Seriously though, they haven't made it clear what the 2ghz mark refers to - Intel or AMD although

    • Hmmm, 2200+, 1Gig RAM, gForce4 ti 4600 128MB. I wonder if it will work on my PC? Can't wait to test this on the nForce4 SLI monster I'm planning.

  • Don't everyone all comment at once. Anyway, 05 has top notch graphics as usual.
  • I've tried about ten mirrors and couldn't get a download from a single one. Most of the german "mirrors" just have a link "download at 4gamers" (so they are in fact just pages that contain a link to another mirror...) and 4gamers only allows 20kb/s unless you pay. Some sites didn't have a download link at all, some redirected me to their front page after clicking the download link. The torrent gives me about 2 kb/s (though I hope that increases with the slashdotting). Man, 3d Mark is a pain in the ass to do

Knee's? What? Is that supposed to mean more than 1 knee?

    FFS.

Dammit. Slashdot has been trying to market itself as being more professional recently. See here [ostg.com]. Editors should do their jobs.

    Nvidia 5700 Ultra overclocked

05 score: 790. The top end scores (with seriously fast pcs at em) are 7000, some people have tried to run this on a fx5200(!). The lowest is a couple hundred.

It's very VERY demanding. Makes my £100 gpu look crap. I'd like to see a video of this running smoothly.

  • 1.4 athlon but screwed only because of no SSE....
    • All Athlon XPs support SSE; thing is it has to be enabled by the BIOS, which quite a lot of motherboard manufacturers didn't do (i suffered it with my ECS K7S5A). Try a BIOS update, it might help.
  • Am I the only one that thinks this is a large AVI file and that 3DMark just tests your system at startup and uses that data to control the FPS in the playback? ;)

Just kidding but, damn, I do this for a living and even I think the graphics are almost unreal. I'd love to be able to interact with some of the models, see what they did.
