Maxis Releases a Patch For The Sims 2 17

senocular writes "Maxis has recently released an update for The Sims 2 (both CD and DVD versions). One of the major issues resolved in the update is the incessant jump bug which caused Sims to erratically "jump" out of social situations making the game unplayable for many players." Another nasty bug (fixed in this patch) that I've encountered is one where stranger Sims walk off the lot with a baby!

The patch (at least the patch as it was on the day of release, it may be modified now) appears to have created at least one new bug. Several users I've seen in a small Sims 2 community have reported the headmaster comes over every day now whether invited or not.
Have EA rushed it out and got it not quite right? Or have they decided to follow Microsoft's moto "lets fix sommat and break sommat else!"?

The patch fixes the following bug, according to the update site

Teens no longer get the unsatisfiable "Write a Novel" want

But I thought that having teenagers with unsatisfiable wants made it even more like real life?

I often erratically jump out of social situations. It's a useful social technique: If people see you randomly jumping around for no reason, they sure as hell aren't going to go talk to you.

    Especially if you drool.
    • It's funny how things like that work. For example, when I'm pushing a cart down the aisle at a crowded grocery store, people don't always hear you say, "Excuse me". Or at least they pretend not to hear. But if I make driving noises while I push the cart, people get out of the way without me having to say anything at all. Try it - it works.

This is in the IT section?

Then What the hell is the games section for? Solitaire?

    • Well, clearly it's Microsoft's fault, since it's a bug and it's on Windows. And any problem with Windows is by extension an IT issue.
    • It is an extension of the "Bored Teen Hacker" bug wherein your sim teens actually hack *Your* box and e-mail *your* contacts an urgent request for help in transfering a large sum of money to their account.

That's not a bug, that's an episode of Sims Law and Order: Special Victims Unit waiting to happen.
    • Only if it runs out that the real father and his sister were the ones who kidnapped the baby while it was in foster care because the mom was in rehab for drugs at the time. (Funny, it's the only episode I've ever seen of that show.)
    • ..they've removed the automatic "Shake the baby excessively" option that social workers would often use when unattended:

An adopted baby no longer snaps to the ground when the social worker that delivers it puts it in a crib.

Fixes a problem with the newspaper delivery person getting stuck on lots containing a high number of objects.

I was a paperboy when I was a kid. This is not an entirely unrealistic situation.

(What can I say? I was easily distracted...)
  • No mention of fixing the "can't select object in use" bug that seams to have infected over half my lots. Typically if some poor sim has a fire while cooking, after the firemen put it out the object on the stove can't be selected. The stove becomes unusable and can't even be sold.
It's not just fires that cause this bug. I've also had toilets that can't be used because they are apparently in use; by invisible sims I guess. IIRC that's due to a sim being forcably removed from the object by a house eve
