ELOTH:TES Makes The News

The well-known Elmenstor Saga, a hit franchise of novels, comics, cartoons, and games, has been featured in a Wired article about the project's continued success. From the article: "Spanning more than 1,400 articles, the Epic Legends of the Hierarchs -- or as fans have unpronounceably abbreviated it, ELOTH:TES -- [is a] modern fantasy franchises: a rich history that spans thousands of years; a contentiously out-of-canon cartoon offshoot, The Wizbits; as well as a crazed, seizure-ridden chief creative director, James Langomedes ..." I always thought Vel Jinglefist got the short end of the straw in the American version of the show. The Japanese treatment of his character was much broader.

Just google the thing, for damns sake. You'll be lucky to find a freakin' trace of any of the terminology or supposed associated franchises in the entire history of the web that concerns this fiction piece of work.

I think it's a hilarious and fun project they're doing, but the fact that anyone would seriously support it as a legitimately existing franchise (at least before it existed in it's recent wiki form) just shows how absurd some people can be. We live in an age where people will make fan sites for

I thought so, too. But, a Japanese friend hooked me up with one of the episodes of the original ElemenSTAR, and I realised that I actually had seen like one or two episodes of the American dubbed version when I was in high school.

Work usually refers to the specific product (e.g. a mickey mouse short) while IP often refers to the entire "world" depicted in it and other works (e.g. mickey mouse himself). If you prefer, we can call it "franchise".

It's not his job to spread misinformation. Most people don't know what the hell "ELOTH:TES" is supposed to be so all we know is what's written in those articles he linked. I thought it was related to The Elder Scrolls (because of the TES bit).

Unpronounceable? It's got 'el' (as in bell), 'oth' (as in moth), and 'tes' (as in test) - 'eloth-tes'. What's the slightest bit unpronounceable about that?

I used to watch the Wizbits religiously on Saturday mornings, but I haven't seen any reruns in a long time. They say there's a DVD on the way, but I can't find it on Amazon. Anybody know of any torrents?

Anyone with any background in CCGs go check out the rules I wrote for the Wizbits game. I'd like to make it as overly complicated and funny as possible (in a nerd-type "resolution nuances are funny" fashion), while still keeping it playable. If anyone has any pointers (and with this large of an audience, I expect there will be), email or respond.

Well, I don't know about you, but ELOTH:TES had me confused for a while, if not fooled!

I'm a 'regular' Penny-Arcade reader, in that I read all the news posts and the comics as they come out M-W-F, but I don't frequent their forums. At first, it seemed evident to me that ELOTH:TES was an in joke, until the wiki showed up! Then suddenly all these people were filling out their memories of the show! Gabe spilled the beans on the PA frontpage. Which was nice because I had NO idea what was going on. I thought it was all some D&D inspired 80 TV show that Tycho has decided to resurrect to feed to his offspring. But as it turns out, the show was cancelled in '83, but wasn't actually created until 2006^H5.
