'Lost', 'Heroes' Videogames Debuted at Comic-Con 30

GameDaily reports that yesterday saw the debut of a trailer for the official Lost videogame. The game is slated for early next year, to coincide with the beginning of the fourth (and newly abbreviated) season of the show. Ubisoft Montreal is developing the game, and has apparently been working closely with the show's production staff. "Players will assume the role of a passenger on the ill-fated Oceanic flight 815 who survives the crash and is stranded on the uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean. As the player begins to unravel mysteries of the island, new secrets about your character are revealed. Players will have to understand their character's past mistakes in order to survive and find their way home. The game will incorporate familiar locations and will feature main characters from the show. Gameplay will involve solving puzzles, outsmarting enemies, battling the smoke monster, and overcoming many other challenges to survive the island and ultimately come out alive." Game|Life has some fleeting impressions of the trailer. There are also some scant details of a videogame version of the show Heroes , currently in pre-production by Ubisoft as well.

  • J.J. Abrams (creator of Lost) did not reveal the title of his mysterious "Cloverfield" film first previewed during Transformers. He denied it was "Monstrous" though.

Whatever it is, its particularly intriguing, and there's enough drama and secrecy surrounding it to make its own film.

  • Given the sagging ratings (and overall indifference of the general populace to the show) - wouldn't it have been much more intelligent to produce and release this game a few years ago? (You know - when Lost was actually popular?)

Lost is only in its 3rd season, thus making it 3 years old. What do you mean by "a few years ago"?

Since the castaway drama returned to ABC in its new time slot (10 p.m. on Wednesdays) on Feb. 7, viewership has slipped by nearly 20 percent to 11.7 million, and the series is down 12 percent from its season 1 highs. Exec producer Damon Lindelof is blunt about the ratings drop: ''It sucks.''

If they intended to make money on this game, they should have released it at the beginning of the second season, when interest in the series was peaked. Also, many television shows don't follow the 1 year = 1 season formula anymore.

While the 2nd season and first half the 3rd season caused a ratings drop (mostly due to slow pacing, too much focus on certain characters, etc) the 2nd half of the 3rd season was much improved and the season finale generally got rave reviews. Having a game out next year might not be bad if they continue the 4th season like the second have the 3rd season. What will hurt them is if the game is just total crap, like Enter the Matrix.
          • Hmm, well I found the 3rd season to be spotty at best, but my favorite so far is the 4th season.

In the fifth season all the questions got answered, so I kind of started losing interest, especially after the robot penguin invasion.
    • A lot of LOST's poor showing was due to the ginormous mid-season break, and a longer than necessary plotline splitting away from the supporting characters that most people cared about.

LOST is a story about survival as a group. As Jack says: "We live together, or we die alone." When they put the main characters apart, fans agreed.

Let me preface this by saying I'm a huge 'Lost' fan. But it's too bad they decided to set the game in the "current" season 1-3 arc. It would have been far more interesting (for me, anyway) to set the game at some time before season 1, so that everything we encounter on the Island is new. I'd love to play a 'Lost' game as someone who came to the Island before season 1, maybe even a DHARMA guy who escaped the Purge, and see events that shaped the Island by the time we reach season 1 of the show.

Lindelof & Cuse say that they have the whole pre-history of the Island already mapped out. I'm sure they won't have enough time in the remaining seasons to cover everything; let us discover some of those mysteries through a game set in the "before season 1" time. Setting it in the "current" time kind of makes it seem flat.

    • That's a great idea.

I have a feeling, though, that the pre-season 1 events will play a large part in the rest of the show, and giving them away now might give away too much.

I think it's going to be really tough to make a game that fans will be happy with and not reveal too much about the show. We'll see how they do.

I think you'd have more than a few pissed off fans if they revealed anything important to the story outside of the show. People who either didn't have the time or patience for the ARG last summer felt that way. While I don't mind extending the world of :ost into different formats, books, games, etc... I do feel that with shows like these, it should be able to stand alone. Any additional media should expand the universe but not be required to make the core story complete.

Incidentally, they've been doing this a lot with Heroes. Perhaps not IMPORTANT but things that add to the story and are semi-spoilers. I eventually decided to read their graphic novels a week later to help prevent this. Their whole "Heroes 360" thing they've been promoting has been all about adding additional details that aren't exactly necessary but are important in understanding the c

        • They actually did something like a dry run for the game during Season 3, Nikki and Paolo. (Well, if the game plays as I expect it to.) The two characters had their own arc, discovered their own mysteries, but interacted with the main cast throughout the season (and their focus episode). It had a satisfying conclusion (for me anyway) i hope the games ending will be as cool.

I still can't believe that Mr. LaShade turned out to be the Cobra.

  • Nobody would have noticed the complete absence of meaningful dialogue and random plot.
  • Why do they always take the same craptastic idea and make it a video game. I'm as interested in playing lost the videogame as much as i'm wanting to play Martha Steward: The Jail Years. You know the game where you have to make creative shanks with just common housecell items,oh and don't forget the Jailsheet doily.
  • I would kill to play as Sylar. So I can kill some more Heroes, I guess. The cheerleader annoys me so I hope you are allowed to kill her.
