Unreal Tournament 3 "Titan Pack" Expansion Coming In March 67

An anonymous reader writes with news that Unreal Tournament 3 will be getting a free expansion called Titan Pack on March 5th. It will contain a variety of new maps, and two new game modes: Greed and Betrayal. There will also be new weapons, deployables, and achievements. IGN's preview of the expansion mentions a few more improvements, such as an improved voting system and client-side demo recording for the PC version. Quoting: "... the most obvious addition to the series is the new Titan. As you play through the game, killing enemies, completing goals and generally avoiding damage, you'll build up your Titan meter. Once it fills up, you can instantly mutate into a 15' tall Titan. The Titan has massive health, a decent shield belt and can fire homing rockets. Oh, and he can also pound the ground to knock back any enemies that get too close. In short, the Titan is a real game changer."

Yeah, but I payed over 50 bucks because we were told there would be a Linux client.

There's a port actually done but we can't have it for some reason.

So I have an expensive box with a year of dust on it sitting on my shelf. Maybe it's not a great game, but I'd like to be the judge of that myself. I really enjoyed UT 99 and UT 2004 on Linux.

Interestingly, I just fired up UT3 for the first time in a little while, and was startled by the lack of servers in my area. For instance, I think I only found one Vehicle CTF server, and it was full. And then I noticed that the servers that were missing were the Midway servers that have been online since I bought UT3. I live in Chicago, which also happens to be the home of Midway headquarters, so that may be why I'm used to seeing them, but I wonder if they've shuttered their servers or if it was just a temporary outage?

I couldn't find a decent TF2 server with a free slot a couple of weeks ago, so I fired up UT3. I haven't played UT3 much, so I figured I'd give it some time to grow on me.

There were literally only about 30 people playing each game type. Warfare had a few more (around 200), but that was it. There were at most 20 servers per gametype, and VCTF only had 3.

UT had nearly 3000 servers a few months ago when I checked it. (Compare that to 7000 in the months before the release of UT2003.)

UT2004 had about 1000 servers. (In its heyday it had 3500 or so.)

UT3 has only around 150 servers. I think it's safe to call it "stillborn". R.I.P. Unreal Tournament.

At least TF2 is alive and kicking...

They declared Chapter 11, which allows them bankruptcy protection while they restructure.

While they might not emerge from Chap 11, they didn't declare Chap 7 (liquidation) so they see hope for a continuation of the company post-debt restructure.

HELP!!!! I'm being held prisoner in /usr/games/lib!
