dominique_cimafranca writes "Disney has confirmed a new Mickey Mouse video game from Epic, and as you might gather from the picture, it looks to be a much darker rendition of the character. Details are sparse as of now, but the magazine has put out a teaser landing page which will be updated every few days with more information."

  • Not Epic Studios. (Score:4, Informative)

According to TFA, Disney confirmed a new Mickey Mouse video game from Junction Point Studios, which was bought by Disney Interactive in 2007. The game is merely titled "Epic Mickey" - the Gears and Unreal developer has no hand in it.

Yeah, the summary confused me, too.

    • This is an official Disney project and I doubt they're going to turn him into Sonic the Hedgehog or anything, they may not even make the character darker at all, we only know that the environment is darker and Mickey looks like he's melting (or made out of fresh paint since the game involves painting).

The art looks dark, yes, but then, the famous "Fantasia" segment of Mickey as the Sorcerer's Apprentice was plenty dark, too. So they're keeping the right spirit, I think. Mickey isn't always hearts and violets. Sometimes he's a cunning tactical schemer, and sometimes he's a pure force of chaos... who always means well.

    • Mickey has to draw and scribble his way through levels, mending broken bridges by applying the right colour paint or peering through walls after applying thinner. He can even clear rubble from his path by erasing parts of the world.

It's a painting game puzzle game with retro art style. It may be darker than previous painting games [wikipedia.org], but I really doubt it's Mickey's version of Batman Begins.
