Microsoft Research have used a Kinect, some clever algorithms and a projector to create a volume of space that allows users to interact with the virtual world. The user can pickup and manipulate 3D graphical objects as if they were real.
It is a small step on the way to a full scale holodeck — now all we need is holo-touch."
