+ - Must TEPCO be nationalized?->

mdsolar writes "In the US, the government formally carries the unfunded liability for a major civilian nuclear accident through the Price-Anderson Act. Thus profits are privatized and costs are socialized for the US nuclear industry beyond a paltry fig leaf of insured liability required in the Act. In Japan, no formal arrangement of this kind existed prior the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Now, is seems likely that the government will have to nationalize the the responsible party, TEPCO. Does this indicate that liability-socialism is the minimum system under which nuclear power can work? Is that sustainable?"
