Journal Shadow Wrought's Journal: A Zonk Rant 4

I tend not to get too caught up in the various editors and their predilictions on Slashdot. This has never been, nor ever will be, a "professional" news site. So I am not all that interested in holding the editors tot he same standard that I would cnn.com or abcnews.com. They post interesting things (for the most part) and spur discussions (many of which are good in spite of themselves). In fact for the most part I really like Zonk because he posts stories more prolificly than the other editors, but I am still somewhat annoyed...

<RANT>
The rant is that Zonk is obviously at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and he has been filing various reports based on first hand observation. We got the Sony keynote in detail, Ron Moore's speech near verbatim, a long, rambling Puzzle Pirates bit, a long piece on Richard Garriet and Tabula Rasa, an extended, albeit not lengthy, write-up of Will Wright's speech, and another extended entry regarding the Game Design Challenge. There are only three posts fromt he GDC that are the normal slashdot paragraph. One for the GDC awards, one for the Rant Session, and finally- and this is my issue for the keynote address of Nintendo's President Iwata

How is it that he either missed or slept through a keynote from one of the three major players in the console business? Who has a console coming out this year! That's supposed to be radically different from everything else on the market! How can you write up a lengthy piece on the producer from Battlestar Galactica and miss the head of a third of the big three?

It just makes me grind my teeth when I see that kind of thing. Professional or not, I think Zonk really dropped the ball in either not being there for Iwata's speech or failing to write it up.

  • First off, many thanks for your enjoyment of the commentary. It took some effort to get out here, and it's nice to know the writeups are getting read.

    Unfortunately, the fact that I have no writeup for Iwata's speech isn't from anti-Nintendo bias or even laziness. Some of my stuff got taken after the Tabula Rasa talk, and I spent a good half hour or so running around trying to find it. I showed up late (without my stuff) and basically had no option other than to sit there and enjoy the speech (which I did, g
    • Thank you for the reply. I should not have allowed myself to get caught up in nefarious reasons, so I apologize for calling you out unnecessarily. Please keep posting your thoughts from the conference they are very welcome;-)

      I also think its pretty stand-up of you to reply to a random JE like this, so you have my respect for that as well.

    • Yeah, Zonker's is a pretty good editor. I like the fact that he's fair, unbiased, and even enjoys and reviews some older games instead of the same-old mainstream stuff. And he like sacrifice, so I know he's got good taste ;)
    • I think I speak for all of us when I say :) lucky bastard
