Olsen Twins Sue Acclaim For Unpaid Royalties 60

filtur writes "The Olsen twins (that got your attention) are suing video game maker Acclaim for royalties regarding their Olsen twins branded video games. Acclaim has apparently run the brand into the ground." Once dubbed "the most powerful young women in Hollywood," the money involved seems almost trivial by comparison to even their individual net worths, but it'll be interesting to see how this turns out.

Ordinarily I'd dismiss this as silly, but seeing someone sue possibly the most wrongheaded and misguided software company out there makes me laugh:) (Anyone who doesn't know what I mean, go look up their history. It's high-larious.)

More to the point, Mary-Kate and Ashley are about 48 days away from reaching legal age.

    Line starts behind me guys:)

except being two identical looking hot teens?

hell, how do you run such a 'brand' to ground in the first place?

    .
what puzzless me is how you do an american videogame about two hot teens without ending up with a pile of crap(except for few hot pics but anyways..).. sure the japs might succeed in such a thing but that's ENTIRELY different story :D

It's time to ditch Acclaim and find another video game publisher... of course, you wouldn't want to be associated with such a company anyway.

You may also want to have a chat with, say, Tony Hawk, about being involved in the game production. I mean, you wouldn't want to slap your name on just any old merch, now would you?

Now, when do we finally get a Super Olsen Sisters Advance?

(Not actually knowing that much about the twins, I'm wondering if there's any difference between them that can be translated to gameplay. Like, one of them can jump higher, but the other can bash bricks with her head or something).
    • There may actually be something there. I know, like when they touch hands one of them could become various kinds of animals and the other could be some kind of object. Then together they fight...errr...Nevermind...

...if I had any idea who these Olson twins are. Perhaps the are a US phenomenon that we in the Old World know nothing about? And if that is the case, how did Acclaim think they could make a nice video game franchise out of this one?
    • They (both) played the youngest child on the American sit-com Full House. When the show ended, they were in their early teens and they began making various straight to video films targetted at preteen girls. Apparently these videos made a lot of money and they invested it well. In addition to video games they've produced many other products as well. They have a lot of money and have a history of making sound business decisions so I'd say that they stand a good chance of winning this lawsuit.

They've also recorded a dozen or so CDs, starting when they were very young. They probably made more off of the videos, but most young girls who like them know them more from their music.

I personally think it's some kind of combination of them being twins, and (in a very sick and disturbing way) watching them grow up on TV as one of America's favorite shows... sorta like Oedipus, only in reverse.

Having said it's sick and disturbing, I'd gladly fuck the brains out of both of them, in ra

Just was not up to the high quality consumers expect of the Olsen twin's name. Who would have thought?
    • You know, I actually bought that game since it looked so bad. Kmart was having an out-of-business sale and I couldn't resist picking it up for $5.

Imagine the reflection I had on myself when I realized I was spending 5 minutes with passing the snowboard level. the darn thing's controls suck and all she could say was "ouch!"

I really couldn't care less about the Olsen twins otherwise (and I know I'm probably the only guy here who doesn't have their 18th birthday marked on a calendar somewhere), but anybody who goes after Acclaim [penny-arcade.com] makes them alright in my book. May they go bankrupt and take their copies of BMX XXX with them.

Acclaim should declare they're now developing exclusively for the Phantom. The two deserve each other.

Acclaim has the most CONSISTENT record out of any game company I've ever seen. Wall to wall crap starting from the late 80s.

I'm STILL amazed at the fact they haven't gone out of business. Guess that just makes them the cockroach company of gaming.. maybe nothing CAN kill them.

    • Star Trek and the Olsen Twins having something remotely in common.

The only fans they have are skinny, pimply, horny mid-teen boys sitting alone in their parents' basement's?

Of course I refer only to Star Trek Enterprise... I can't argue that the age of the fans of TOS, TNG, or DS9 is limited only to mid-teens... Voyager is up for debate though.
  • Just on the surface, you gotta side with the hot twins. Acclaim could've easily made half decent games and plopped the MK&A brand on it. Olsen Twins Bedazzled, Olsen Twins Music Trivia, Olsen Twins Pictionary. No one was looking for Halflife level Olsen Twins games, but Acclaim, as usual, screwed it up by releasing drek. In thier defense though, Acclaim has released nothing but crap since 1998 so maybe the twins should've seen it coming.

I'm 35. I've only just figured out who these girls are because my daughters (aged 3 & 5) watched an old video of theirs from the 80's.

God, the video is AWFUL. What the hell is so great about two girls (who look vaguely like "Troll dolls" [mit.edu]) pretending to sing and act? They mostly just sit there and look tired of cameras pointed at them.
