Red vs. Blue Season 2 Hits DVD on August 2nd 18

pretzelsofwar writes "The popular Red vs. Blue: The Blood Gulch Chronicles from redvsblue.com, releases its Season 2 DVD shipping August 2nd. The DVD is available for pre-order if you haven't already contributed to the website for Season 2, which is freely downloadable in lower-quality formats. It is not yet known when and if Season 3 will begin, but many await the arrival of this machinima series based off of Microsoft and Bungie's Halo: Combat Evolved."

  • I really dug season 1, but season 2 was a little too goofy. On the other hand, i'll probably pick this up just to support them, cuz I really dig the artform.

I suppose in the end the wallet has the final say.

In other news, All your base are belong to us is planning a sequal. Net citicens all around the world unite in a single yawn.

Yes, I watched RvsB S1, yes it was funny, but much of it was pointless filler. The only thing I remembered through it all was a conversation that went something like "We're out here in the middle of nowhere defending the blue flag, why, because the red guys are over there with a flag of their own. Its fucking stupid! If we left there would be no blue flag for them to capture and no point in defending their red flag!"... something like that.

Now its kinda cool seeing the Red VS Blue guys at Bestbuy on the X-box displays doing commercials, gives you a warm grass roots feeling inside, but thats a topic for another rambling.
    • Red Vs Blue was like many fan made movies/comedies/comics, 99% parody on the actual game 1% original content. Case in point : one of the characters asks if his buddy every wonders why are they fighting in a canyon. Response : 'No, semper fi bitch.'
  • I am wondering if the new promotion ARG (Alternate Reality Game) for Halo2 is to promote Red vs. Blue.

The game just started a couple days ago and is being pursued at http://www.immersionunlimited.com/ [immersionunlimited.com]. The website the world is flocking to is http://www.ilovebees.com/ [ilovebees.com].

So, with a game that is not like a game promoting a game is definately something that will bend your mind.

...but RvB is just fine in my book.

Sure, it's not always universally side-splitting funny, but what form of entertainment is?

I say keep watching if you like it, and move on if you don't - no need to get all philosophical about it.

I was worried that it was basically over after the first season, but the 2nd season has had its moments as well (like Doc's "Okay, but I don't think it'll stick.").

Given the cost of admission - FREE, pay for the high res episodes or DVDs if you like it enough - how can anyone complain? It's not like someone's holding a plasma rifle to your head and making you watch it...

(ps. Episode 2 of the first season is still my favorite - "Griff - chupa-thingy, how 'bout that? I like it....it's got a ring to it....")

Somewhere along the way, Season 2 marked where RvB jumped the shark. I'm not exactly sure when. RvB works the best when there's interaction between characters or when they riff on gameplay elements. Sadly, this season they drifted off into spirit posession, evil spirts and reincarnation. For some reason, when there's a plot it isn't funny.

What do you think? When did RvB jump the shark to you, if ever?

I think it's _really hard_ to write that stuff. Given you get what you pay for (if you d/l it) it wasn't too bad. An amateurish effort on the way to, hopefully, much better work in the future. Criticizing RvB is kind of like criticizing the "Santa versus Jesus" original SouthPark.

Remember, the value isn't in the art but in the artist and their potential to develop. Sure, RvB is not Williams Street, but do you think given a few years of practice the writers could land something worthy of Adult Swim? I'd say so.

I still think it's funny. I actually kinda like the plotline they've got going. Better than them sitting around joking about what to call their vehicles or who keeps hogging the sniper rifle every single episode. There's only so many jokes about Halo CTF you can make, and IMHO they used most of them up in season 1. I doubt they'd be doing a season 3 if they hadn't added a more serious plot (and consequently, more material to work with) to the series.
    • Alright, I may or may not be spoiling a few things in this post so if you haven't seen all of season 2 yet (or just the "season finale") and you still plan on it, stop here.

What about in the Season Finale of season 2, when Tucker finds out that both the red army and the blue army are basically the same, and that there was absolutly no point to absolutely everything they have been doing. I thought it

    Doc: I'm a pacifist.
Caboose: You're a thing that babies suck on?
Tucker: No dude, thats a pedophile.
Church: Tucker, I think he means a pacifier.
    • Church: Get anything out of the red guy?

Tucker: No, nothing really, besides a bunch of crock pot recipes. Would those be useful?

Church: Do we have a crock pot?

Tucker: We did, but Caboose traded it to some annoying guy from Blue Base.

Church: What'd he get in return?

      Tucker: A "mystery box."

Church: What was in the box?

      Tucker: Forty jars of mayonnaise.

Church: Pssht. Well that's a good trade.

Tucker: Yeah, mayonnaise makes a good sunscreen.

Church: How did you- Never mind.

I hear everybody whining about how RvB ain't that great any more, and you know what? Few extremely popular shows really are. Take the Simpsons for example, sure, I enjoy watching it, and laugh hard every now and then, but its hardly as side splittingly funny as it once was.

RvB is the same, although I tend to laugh more than I do with the Simpsons because it fits my style of humor better (more random). Plus, its free for the low res. So I really don't see what the problem is. Frankly, if you think you can do better, then by all means go right ahead. Its certainly not easy to write a script for something like this. I'm planning on making a free web-distributed tv show this year for my senior project, and frankly, once you start looking at whats involved (mine uses actors, so its a bit more complicated in some ways, a bit less in others) it is fucking DAUNTING.

  • Just thought I'd mention that they have already confirmed to the sponsors that there will be a season 3. They haven't set a date, but hinted that it would be early Fall.

Adding features does not necessarily increase functionality -- it just makes the manuals thicker.

Working...
