Nintendo Reveals More DS Games, Publishers 30

StrikerObi writes "Over at Planet GameCube, we've posted an expanded list of Japanese-announced Nintendo DS titles currently in development for their new dual-screened handheld system. Highlights include a new 'Mana' game from Square-Enix and a new RPG from Game Arts, the makers of the Grandia series." GameSpot's Japanese correspondent provides the full list of games, including the games "previously announced at E3", and also comments: "Among the more interesting developments, Konami Japan will release a Boktai game, while Konami Tokyo will release a Castlevania game for the DS."

  • See, one of the game is "Egg monster heroes".

    Let me think :
    - the chicken is on the top screen
    - and the egg falls in the bottom screen ?

Gee, I can't help loving the DS...

I must have missed it, but I guess Dynasty Warriors was announced for the DS at E3. Up till this point, that game was one of the few advantages the PSP had in my mind. However, the DS library is looking more and more attractive. Combined with their first-party line-up, it seems like Nintendo is poised to fight Sony tooth and nail. Whatever, though... It's about time we had some competition in the portable arena. Nintendo has gotten way too complacent with their Gameboy. It's a real shame we don't see more original titles from them on the GBA... the system's best years have been squandered away.

On a side note, if any GBA fans haven't checked out Superstar Saga yet, definately give it a shot. I am not an RPG fan, but this game is highly entertaining.
    • Nintendo has gotten way too complacent with their Gameboy
I don't know why people say this, I love my Gameboy and actually think the DS won't have the great 2d games the GBA has now. The GBA has its place just like my SNES and N64 that still get use, in addition to the Gamecube.
      • I can't speak for everyone else, but when I say that Nintendo has gotten complacent with the gameboy, I usually put it this way: Name me the original games that Nintendo has put out for the Gameboy.

Make sure that you are getting Nintendo games, not just "gameboy" games.

The vast, vast majority of the Nintendo releases are: All Super Marios ever made, a number of other Super Nintendo retreads, and the latest, the downright insulting re-release of mostly-crappy Nintendo games at $20 apiece. Puh-leaze... I mi
        • How about all the various Pokemon flavors.

Might not be your style (they're not mine), but they are definitely Gameboy-first games, with the Gamecube offerings being very secondary.

They sold a few copies of those games, too.

Pokemon, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, the Golden Sun series, Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission, Zelda: Four Swords... I'm sure I'm missing some.

There are plenty of original games out there. I'll agree that there are a lot of remakes (SMB 2/3, Mario World/Yoshi's Island, Kirby's Nightmare in Dreamland, Link to the past, Famicom Mini series), but when you consider that many of them are over 15 years old, and that many of Nintendo's customers weren't even *alive* when those games were first released, I think it makes perfect sense to re-release some of these old classics.

Personally, I think it's great that these games are being made available again. Most of them have stood the test of time very well. I think it's a good thing for new young players to see some of modern video gaming's roots.

Pokemon: Hey, I didn't say no originals... but note they still do that crap with "Connect to the opposite color to have all the fun."

            Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Yes.

the Golden Sun series: No, that is by Camelot Co, Ltd [gamefaqs.com]. (Own the first one, not my style but a solid game.)

Advance Wars: Intelligent Systems [gamefaqs.com], not nintendo. (Own the first one, haven't beat it yet. Would probably have gotten the second by now.)

Fire Emblem: Also Intelligent Systems [gamefaqs.com].

Metroid Fusion: Yes, but Zero Mission: Remake, albeit one with actual effort.

Zelda: Four Swords: I had been under the impression that this was a remake of A Link to the Past that had multiplayer; I see now I was wrong. (But add A Link to the Past to the remake list...)

Now, please stop reading into what I said. Never said it was bad to do the remakes. I have Doom 2 and it's cool. But they've released like 20 remakes, maybe more if you count each E-Reader game seperately, to like 4 or 5 original games... that's about one original a year. Frankly, all they have to do to make me happy is to take the engine from Yoshi's Island, and make a new game from it. The content coming out of Nintendo is quite complacent.
            • Zero Mission is a new game. It is not a port. I want to make this clear, since many people seem to use the words remake and port interchangeably, when their meanings are quite different. Zero Mission is a retelling of the original Metroid story, but it is a new game.

The two new metroid games have been more than enough justification for my GBA SP purchase. But then, I'm a huge metroid fan.
            • Zero Mission isn't a remake so much as a complete overhaul meant to replace the original. It's not like they just tacked Super Metroid graphics onto it, they added a storyline and much more content than the original had.

As for other SNES/NES remakes/re-releases, remember that the SNES itself came out over ten years ago. There are a lot of young/teenage gamers who never got a chance to experience Super Mario World or the original Zelda. Whether it's a ripoff or not, I'd rather see kids playing those than Gr
          • "Mario vs. Donkey Kong"

A re-mix of Donkey Kong for the (Super) Game Boy, complete with a lot of the same moves (possibly the most moves Mario has had before or since).

Not that I'm complaining, mind you. Heck, I was just happy with, after a decade or so after I got my ColecoVision, I finally had the opportunity to beat the (#$* out of the #^#%* monkey! "See how you like getting barrels thrown at you, you miserable SOB!! Catch, mofo!"
          • Don't forget Wario Ware, a very original game.
  • as a Hardcore gamer that has no affiliation to any company i'll be buying both PSP and DS and i can see right away that its gonna be even more heated than the PS2/GC/XBC console war, both systems have their ups and downs and both systems have huge target audiences that will probably go down fighting with their Portable of choice. before the chaos ensues i want everyone to remember, in Console wars, the only real winners are the Gamers
    • in Console wars, the only real winners are the Gamers

yes because nintendo and sony made no money...
      • by Anonymous Coward
It's not that they don't make any money on console wars, but they are making far less than they could be. Video games cost about the same now as they did back in the day. The Atari 2600 sold for $199 back in 77. Thats the modern equivelant of nearly $600, how are the gamers not coming out on top? The video game industry is like the capitalist dream come true.
    • ...i can see right away that its gonna be even more heated than the PS2/GC/XBC console war, both systems have their ups and downs and both systems have huge target audiences that will probably go down fighting with their Portable of choice.

Wow, I feel old, The PS2/GC/XBC war is nothing compared to the SNES/Genesis war, now that one was good. I can still remember s few slogans.. "Sega does what Nintendon't" and "Why got to the next level when you can go light years beyond" Ahh. memories.
    • The PSP has some cool factor... but when people start looking at what they're going to spend their $$$ on I think the DS is the runaway winner.

      DS will be cheaper
DS will have a larger library
      DS is enabling something new

...the difference is focus. The DS is a gaming machine... the PSP is overreaching with their new media-type, hopes to be a movie player (of whose movies?) etc...

  • I'm hoping and praying for a Earthbound Zero / Mother 1 port someday for the gameboy. I'd also love to see the SNES Earthbound released, and while we're on the subject, how about Chrono Trigger? My wish list goes on to include the SNES StarFox, but that goofy FX chip they jammed in the game may make it a difficult port. I honestly still can't figure out the purpose behind that FX chip...
  • ...with all the old Game Boy games?

    Anyone know?

Keep up the good work! But please don't ask me to help.

Working...
