Might and Magic Goes MMO in China 5

Angelspit writes "GameSpot reveals that Ubisoft China and TQ Digital Entertainment will team up to develop a massively multiplayer game based on the Might and Magic universe. The game would originally be released in China in 2005, but a worldwide release is also considered. Alain Corre, managing director at Ubisoft, described their plans: "The approach on this product is to blend Asian gameplay elements and a western franchise with high recognition in the Asian territories." Ubisoft is also working on a new Heroes of Might and Magic game, but the title has not been officially announced."

Hey, just as long as you don't use words like "Freedom" "Paper" or "hongzhi" http://journalism.berkeley.edu/projects/chinadn/en /archives/002885.html you'll be able to safely travel the Might and Magic online world in China.

How exactly will they do this? There have been many different worlds in Might and Magic. Most of them (though the games themselves were great) were rather unremarkable.

Characters? Outside of Corak & Sheltem (from M&M 1-V), and the Ironfists (Roland, his wife Catherine, and his evil brother Archibald), there really haven't been much of note.

The Might and Magic games have been great, but have been so almost because of their genericness that allows the gameplay to be what is remembered.

Now that being said, I would love to see another Might and Magic (not just Heroes) game developed by a competant company. The first seven games were great, but the eighth and ninth were lacking to say the least.
    • I'm still trying to get my hands on IX.. either in a store or somewhere else.

There was a player released patch [gamershell.com] that made the game greater than it was, and more like what it was supposed to be.

This patch corrects many, but not all, of MM9's known bugs. Most importantly, it will prevent all of the game-killing bugs

More details and discussions can be found at their forum, Telp's MM9 tavern [telp.org].
