    Just a tip in advance, ignore any postings by the guy spamming his DSLinux website.

    He created the account for the sole purpose of doing that (as shown by his only posts being in the DS discussion yesterday where he spammed his website). He has no actual work on there, and is asking the community to do it for him (and create his logo) in exchange for $1000 which he is most likely getting from ad revenue and from the pre-order commission links on his website.

    So, just trying to prevent this guy from getting more clicks than he already has last time he spammed, as it seems likely that he will again this time, most likely under a different uid.

    All flash? I don't have flash installed and didn't see a single missing plugin image on the site. Did i click the wrong link or something :s.

      Maybe Nintendo has some sort of intelligent website creator that checks for the plugin and if it doesn't find it automatically loads a non-flash site meaning the end-user doesn't need to bother with plugins and such.
      • I don't think so. On opera, it just recycles the intro page regardless of which browser you choose, even if you set the browser string differently.

    I can see myself chatting and gaming with strangers at bars, movie theaters, coffee houses, etc... But that's only if the DS reaches critical mass. It'll make for a better social device than the PSP, thanks to the touch screen and pictochat. I think Nintendo has a winner on their hands.

    at least in that game, someone told me i needed to get the blue pages. i can't figure out what's the point of of this site. it took me about 10 clicks before i finally found some real text that said something. and that music. i half expected mario to pipe up with "welcome to zombo com... you can touch anything at zombo com"
    • Agreed. That website is truly horrible. I expect a little better from Nintendo.
    • It really is just absolutely a terrible website. I hate flash becuase I feel like people think "I CAN make a confusing and terrible animated website now, so I obviously SHOULD."

    Please oh please let me know where this magical hot spot is that can handle an infinite number of users. I mean who wouldn't want an infinite amount of bandwidth. Oh and I want that server that can handle an infinite number of connections.

    • After a bad experience with an infinite number of monkeys, I'm quite happy not to have to play any games with an infinite number of humans.
    • You know - many advances are made because of theoretical approaches that, at the time, do not seem practical. I don't see how you are requesting "that server" when you note that they are talking theoretically.
    • Dude, chill. They said "theoretically" because they don't know yet how many users it can support. I assume they've run some tests in-house. Also, I think it has less to do with hot-spots as games being played over the Internet, which wouldn't be limited to one hotspot.

      I kind of understand your point, it's like being told that a battery promises "up to six hours of life," when that's actually a best-case scenario that applies to no-one.

    • I think you are reading it wrong.

      The statement does *not* read "allows you to simultaneously connect to an infinite number of players" - which it seems that you are interpreting them as saying.

      Think of e-mail, you theoretically have an infinite number of people available to send an e-mail to.

      - that doesn't mean that you have an e-mail client/server that can handle a CC with that much data.
      - or that every person on the planet has e-mail
      - or that an infinite number of people exist!

        I still believe the blurb does imply simultaneous connections.
  • This could actually be one of the worst uses of Flash I have ever seen. Its amusing that this is an honest attempt at a website, and not some way conspiracy by flash-haters to undermine its use. Turn those two rectangles on their side and make them boobies, however, and now you're talking.

      I was thinking that this is conceptually one of the best uses of flash in my opinion. The whole ad campaign is all about good touches, and the non-intuitive website encourages groping your way through, which is one of the benefits of flash, in a sense.

      Sadly, I'm not even sure if I'm serious anymore, but I still think it's a fun site if you've got the patience to be advertised to.

    Have one on preorder, and the more I hear about it the more excited I am to get my hands on it. Yes all these features have been done before to some extent on PDA's, etc. But for the first time it looks like all this technology will just "click" together.

    Let's hope the 3rd party support is beefed up so it won't suffer the Nintendo "Syndrome". Great first party, not enough 3rd party "Great" titles. (ie. not counting shovelware).
  • It is one of the worst designed websites I've seen. The pictures look good, and I like the way it is intuitive, but a button to silence it would be appreciated. My biggest gripe is, at least with this resoloution, all of the text can't be seen - the screen usually follows the cursor, but when the text comes up it is locked and there's still some text that can't be seen both above and below the fold.

    I read this article [nintendojo.com] about some of the things that are being done by companies. Notably, the fact that companies have linked 32 handhelds together.

    Another thing that piqued my interest is that internet browsing protocols (I'm assuming http and such) are in development. I can't really see the DS actually displaying regular web pages, but this opens up a whole new possibility: MMOARG- Massive Multiplayer Online Alternate Reality Games. ARGs just like the recently finished I Love Bees [ilovebees.com]. Except these could be longer and have more to do outside.

    Here's an example: You know that you have to meet with an agent of some spy organization to get a password to allow you into the enemy's internet organization. However, the spy is afraid of getting caught, and as such, does not stay in one place. Armed with a GPS device (or, hell, even one that plugs into the DS,) you wirelessly connect to a pre-designated website (or even something else that has a DS-only protocol) and use that to track the location of the spy, and try to locate him. You'll have other visual clues, of course. Once you do, he gives you a DS card (or even something you load onto the DS card in your system,) and you're off.

    The more I hear about this device, the more I wish I had preordered one. Unfortunatly, I didn't have the funds. Hmm, I have a semi-regular paycheck now, and I've been wanting to go on a diet for a while...
