Listen up idiot publishers, give me original games or give me nothing at all!

    I am sick of sequels!

I demand better and I will vote accordingly with my wallet.
    • What did you expect, if a game sells exceedingly well and is popular with millions - whats the point on risking money and time on creating a new game, when there is guaranteed finance in creating a sequel.

    • speak for yourself, i'm still waiting for street fighter 4. (or is it alpha 3 champion edition reissue?)
    • Ah, but perhaps you're familiar with the old addage...

If it's not broken, don't fix it.
    • they are listening, and everybody wants a sequel. There are original games too, that freaked out japanese one where you roll into things and get bigger. theres somethign original.
    • Consumers want sequels, that's why developers make them. Popular and enterntaining (read: good) sequels consistently sell well.

On the otherhand rehashed, rushed and shoddy sequels sell poorly (See Eidos games).

Sega consistently released original titles and didn't remake alot of older franchises that they could have such as Golden Axe, Streets of Rage, etc. Sega is now merged with Sammy.

Developers need to make sequels to help ensure that they can stay in business. They'll also throw out some origi

    • So I guess you would prefer that developers always tell completely self-contained stories and never, ever develop consistent universes where every new story enriches and is enriched by previous ones?
  • I wonder if this means they are really happy with how MGS 3 is turning out. Either that or it's just publisher hubris.
  • I... can't take... much more... of... this.

Too... many games... to... be played...

    Spock... I... Can't... Go On.

    • Tell me about it, I got a christmas list the size of the sun. Just ESPN basketball 2k5 and ESPN nfl 2k5 alone is eating up all my time.

[Here's top 5 on my list]

      -GTA san andreas
      -WWE smackdown vs raw
      -Half life 2
      -Resident Evil online
      -COD united offensive

Holyshit I am glad gran turismo 4 won't be out till 2005. Anything else worth being in my top 5?

      • Hmmmm Doom 3, Halo 2 (it's awesome), Metroid Prime 2, Farcry, Fable, Knights of the Old Republic 2...

By far, this has been the best gaming offering for Christmas time (for me, at least). These titles are all pretty top-notch.

to think that Julie Strain [juliestrain.com] (not work safe) was left out of Snake Eater.

That would have been natural marketing!

At the Tokyo Game Show 2004, they showed a Metal Gear Solid 3 trailer. Near the end of it, words come up saying this is the final episode in the Metal Gear Solid Trilogy. I expect them to make more Metal Gear games, just not more Metal Gear Solid games.

Theres trailers for download at Konami's site:

This game is a prequel, but it does finish the storyline from the previous games, as many things were unexplained. In this case, I think making three g
  • HALELUYAH! Metal Gear forever!
  • Perhaps he was referring to the upcoming MGS card game for PSP.
  • Which system? will it be out in 2005 or early '06 or will they wait for the PS3 to come out so they can launch with it?

    That would be something.
  • I always thought that the MGS series would finish in a trilogy. If anything, the next Metal Gear game (not counting Acid on the PSP) will hopefully be the start of a new series.

After watching the various trailers for MGS3 and playing the demo, there isn't a doubt in my mind that this will kick as much ass as Sons of Liberty (yes, it kicked ass. Fuck the haters.).
  • While it would be a surprise if a MGS4 didn't come out, I don't see how "create more games on the series" is a confirmation of a MGS4. It could be the Acid game that's coming out on December 16 in Japan for PSP, it could be an altogether different game. Of course Konami's not going to just dump their Metal Gear franchise.
  • Kojima is such a bastard, he keeps saying "this is my last MGS, I swear!" Lying fuck, I can't help but love him. Metal Gear Solid 4: Have Some More Raiden, Bitches!
    • You're right, he keeps say, "this is my last MGS, I swear!" Except for the fact that no one has the balls the try and take his position as director/developer/lead designer (whatever the hell he is when it comes to the Metal Gear games). That said, it was either let the series end on paper or finish what he started.
