DS E3 Demos Available from the Aether 26

Press the Buttons has the news that if you have a DS at E3 2005, this year's demos will be downloadable via wireless networks. From the article: "Now this has me thinking... since data downloaded into the Nintendo DS wirelessly stays in memory until the system is turned off, wouldn't it be possible to download, say, a Mario Kart DS demo at E3 and then just keep the system in sleep mode whenever it wasn't in use, thereby keeping the demo in your hands for weeks or even months after E3 is over?"

Or, what about RIPping it to a ROM? I know there are some emulators in the works, but I do see that as happening. Demo Kiosks in stores and malls, new games "exclusive" to one store soon to be downloaded. I for one am glad they went with wireless, and I can't wait for the official wireless from the big N in November.
    • Like they're seriously going to put the whole game on the 'net?

It's a demo, it's probably going to be crippled in some way in order to fit in the DS's RAM anyways.

If they do get these in ROM form, I'm sure that won't tick the big N off that much, and could be a good viral marketing side effect if that were to happen.

Yeah, you could store the demos forever if you'd like. You would just never be able to play anything else, since you couldn't restart your DS.

I like the idea of downloading these demo's on the floor though. A simple yet very cool implementation of our new wireless world.

Such is the price of having Mario Kart months before your non-E3 friends.

  • Here is hoping that someone captures these demos so I can load them to my ds via wifime.
  • With Bruce Lee on my C64. I had a friend with a 1541 who brought it over and we started the game. I played for about a week until I felt an overwhelming urge to write a program.

This will be extra awesome since people wont have to wait in lines to play demos if they have their own DSes. It might even be faster to buy a new DS than to wait in line giving Nintendo a few sales.

I'm going to the Nintendo store opening tomorrow, hopefully they'll have something like this there too. As soon as I get within range I'm going to hit that download play button. I also fully expect all four picto chat rooms to be full and populated with representations of male genitalia.

well the DS has a clock right? i'm guessing Nintendo would be capable of time-limiting these demos to be unplayable after E3.
  • Next thing you know the next time you stick that ds back in it's case a guy will be charging at you yelling "I wasn't finished downloading fu#$er!"
  • i cant wait for sony/microsoft to fill pictochat-rooms with ad's for their own products.

or possibly an demo ap, which is just a rolling video, that is watched on the DS, showing their products in action
