DOA Ships Today 37

Gamespot reports that the much-anticipated Dead or Alive 4 ships today, after a series of delays and confusion. From the article: "During the past month or so, the game's presumptive release date kept getting pushed back by about a week at a time by online retailers, causing many to wonder whether the game would indeed ship in 2005, especially since Tecmo remained mum about a specific release date all the while. But now fighting fans can look forward to an action-packed weekend courtesy of the latest game from Ninja Gaiden developer Team Ninja."

  • Does the counter system actaulyl WORK this time around? Hmm.... I won't be buying a 360 just for this game, but I'll certanly check reviews (from other gamers) to see if it's at least worthy of a casual tournament.
  • --BREAKING NEWS--
Game X was delayed, but now it is released.

I hope we can expect a headline for whatever game is released tomorrow.

The online options include everything from daily tournaments, monthly tournaments of the highest rated players, and even Guilds/Clans.

Kudos to a company that resisted the urge to release an unfinished game for the holiday season and made sure the game was perfect. This game should see a ton of success, and this decision should be a model for other companies.

This is the first game in the 360 line-up that I care about. Now, if only two more games that are also good come out for the system my three game min req. will be fullfilled and I might actually pick up the system. By then, the system might be available also. I guess I am waiting on an official Gaiden 360 release date. Tecmo seems like they are one of the few companies that produced awesome X-Box only titles. When titles are cross platform, I tend to buy them for my PC or Gamecube.
    • I would be in the same boat as you but it is irrelevant because I couldn't buy a 360 if I wanted one. If people who want to buy one cannot, and it is selling for 2x retail on Ebay, the launch has to be catagorized as a disaster.

The other games for me would be Oblivion and possibly Gears of War. I'm not sure where it is going though- whether it would be the next Halo or the next Brute Force (a good game, but not a great one).

Now utilizing the bouncing tit engine 2.0 and ass shaders 3.0. Don't forget kids, this version has sweat, and each bead of sweat has it's own beads of sweat made up of 5,000 polygons. All this while maintaining 10,000 fps.

Its the same reason I dont care about the Madden games released every year.

    Ive played this already.

Yes, I hear people constantly talking about how much theyve improved so-and-so elements of the game, how x looks that much nicer, how there is more interesting background interaction... but its still the same game, just shinier.

Ive played DoA before. I played DoA1,2 and a little of 3. I just cant justify 60$ on a game that Ive already played multiple times. This is just a slight upgrade on an already well esta
  • Anyone else find it funny that the release of a game with this name, will pretty much sum up if the XBox360 is dead or alive? and how competetive it'll be with PS3 whenever that finally makes it out.
    • Lack of DOA4 kept me out of the X-Box 360 lines during the Christmas rush. ... well, that and lack of compatability with DOAX.

Now they are about half way to getting me to want one.
      • And if a friend has DAO4 and it sucks? Will you consider and XBox360? I wouldn't... then again I'm waiting on Nintendo anyways. Give me good games over good graphics any day.

Given that DOA3 displaced the Soul Calibur series as my favorite gaming franchise, and that I thought DOAX was a brilliant work of art, I fully expect that DOA4 will not suck, based on Team Ninja's track record thus far.

I also prefer good games over good graphics, but the DOA series have been very, very good games which also happen to have good graphics.

IGN reviewed it today, 9.0/10. While you shouldn't buy a game based on a single review (remember the Driv3r debacle, though IGN wasn't a part of that since they gave it a 5.4), everything I've read about the game by people that have played beta versions has been positive.

The thing about fighting games is that it is hard to gauge how good they are until you let the fighter community try as hard as they can to break every aspect of the game engine. For a lot of gamers I know, balance is of utmost importance and there's no QA team in existence that can match the ability of thousands of hard-core Japanese gamers in arcades to find that one quirk that makes a few characters undefeatable most of the cast (if such a flaw exists--and in many fighting games it does). Eh, this is jus
  • This should do a lot of good for the lagging 360 sales in Japan, apparently a lot of people put off buying one because of the lack of games. The main game they wanted at launch that wasn't available was DOA4. Microsoft will be glad to see it finally hitting the shelves.
  • I guess for some reason the Europeans have to wait at least 2 more weeks. I haven't seen any exact release dates yet, they seem to range from 20060114 to 20060201. I don't understand why this delay has to be built in. I live in Holland, and it's not like the whole game or manual has to be translated to Dutch.
  • Its about time, Tim (creator of the popular web-comic Ctrl-Alt-Del) will be relieved to hear the news. i am wondering why i have heard more about these random games that miss their release dates and then nothing on say the Phantom game console that is just that, a phantom. i bet you would get some interesting feedback from a post like that. although i could have just missed it but i guess i will never know.
