Hands-On With Lost Planet and Assassin's Creed 9

Lost Planet is coming to the 360 soonish, and is a 3rd person shooter about being cold and shooting bugs. From the GameDaily Lost Planet hands-on: "Our second time through the level we used a bit more strategy by taking down the first set of pirates with our rifle, sniping them from a distance. Before the mech was alerted to our presence we sniped the pirate in the cockpit and hopped in ourselves. From there we used the dual machine guns in the mech to take down the tower guards and moved on from there." There's a demo up on Live Arcade if you're interested. And you should be, because it's very good. Assassin's Creed, meanwhile, is slated for the PS3 and has whispers of 'Best of Show' following it around. From the Next Generation Assassin's Creed hands-on: "Eliminating targets is completely up to the user. Where, when and how you take out your enemies left completely open. You can stalk your prey, scale buildings to get a better view of their actions, mount horses and follow them or just blend into the crowds and keep an eye on them from afar."

Next-Gen's report is based *only* on the videos the publishers have released and the press interview. As far as I am aware no press has posted a hands-on experience of Assassin's Creed. I would love to be corrected, since the game looks and sounds awesome, and I want to know more.

I'm almost 100% sure that you're right -- the press has only seen demonstrations of Assassin's Creed -- they haven't gotten actually to play the game. I'd like a little more clarity on whether the game is a PS3-exclusive. Joystiq is reporting it will also be released on the Xbox 360 (despite the title in this link): http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/02/assassins-creed- ubisofts-ps3-exclusive/ [joystiq.com] (and I could swear I read some other preview also mentioning a possible PC release, too.)
      • The official site only had the Playstation 3 logo at the bottom last time I checked, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't be ported to other consoles. It does, however, strongly suggest that it may well be a PS3 exclusive, no matter what they've promised in the past.

      • The way it's being handled at E3 leads me to believe it'll either be a timed exclusive. or Ubisoft won't show off the 360 version at all.
      • UbiSoft sure doesn't seem to think it's coming out for the 360, at least not anytime soon.

Maybe Sony saw something they liked and paid for it to become an (at least temporarily) exclusive title. Seems to sound like it could've been worth it. And from the impressions I read at GameSpot an IGN they were both watching (though not playing) an actual real-time game, complete with buggy AI and framerate drops. I got this impression, because they were marvelli

Rumor has it that the demo was actually played on a 360 in the PS3 booth. The game was shown off back at X05.
