God of War 3 and God of War PSP Official 39

GOWfreak writes "Oh his blog covering the God of War 2 launch event at the PlayStation store in San Francisco, 1UP editor Matt Leone revealed a whole ton of stuff on the future of the God of War series. The biggest news is that God of War 3 is coming to PS3 and it will have rumble (first confirmation of rumble coming back to PS3!) and 1080p resolution. There's even talk of it having co-op play. Director Cory Barlog also spoke about the God of War PSP game. 'It is epic. It is big. There are hooks in the PSP story that I actually wrote from one of my first stories for God of War 2.'"

Sweet, rumble, 1080p and coop play!

How will Microsoft ever compete against these features!

Whether Microsoft can compete (yes, almost certainly) with that feature list depends a lot on the quality of the co-op play.

It seems to me there is great demand for co-op in many genres, but it's difficult to do well. The trouble being that you need to support singleplayer and it's too expensive to do another entire game for co-op, so you end up tweaking the singleplayer and hoping that's good enough.

If God of War 3 does this well and really is an exclusive for PS3, the main thing that will do is irrita

Just to clarify, God of War and God of War 2 are Sony first party titles, so I don't see the series being developed for the 360 anytime soon.

When Dreamcast died Sega started making games for other systems. From growing up in the late 80's/early 90's, seeing Sonic on a Nintendo system practically brought a tear to my eye.

Oh, if Sony's console division goes under, then sure, it'd be a whole different ball game. I wasn't really considering that scenario. Regardless of the perception of the PS3 here on Slashdot, I don't think it'll die any time soon.

I think the more interesting point is... this is one 'heavy hitting' franchise that 'if' it stays PS3 exclusive (no 360 port), will be good for selling PS3 systems. I'm sure there are plenty of fans who will pick up a PS3 just to play GOW3... and by that time, there will likely be a few more games out to convince those still sitting on the ledge.

I'm planning on Picking up GOW2. I would love to play GOW3, but I

i understand the wishful thinking on everyone's part, but god of war is first party sony; wholely developed internally. it will always be exclusive unless sony sells its entire gaming division.

gears of war was second party: funded and published by microsoft, but developed and created by epic. not saying that it will, but gears of war has a greater chance to go cross platform before god of war would.

You're absolutely right. For some odd reason, I thought it was a 3rd party title, but it's not [wikipedia.org]. So, it looks like God of War is definitely going to help sell some PS3's should GOW3 be as good as the original (and potentially the 2nd).

Rumble was a "last gen" feature?

Seriously though, and correct me if I'm wrong, I thought PS3 controllers didn't have rumble. Will you have to buy a new controller, or will this be some sort of plugin pack, like the N64 rumble pack was?

You mean like how out of touch Nintendo's PR was when the company decided to implement optical discs and online gaming even after they repeatedly bashed both of them?

Face it, all companies make fun of the things that the competitors do that they themselves won't or can't do. Then the good companies take the parts of those things that they like and implement them, hopefully improving them in the process. We all know that the only reason that Sony took rumble off of the Sixaxis controllers was because of th

Oh, this will be another way for Sony to get more money. When they added on the rumble feature to the PS1, people thought they had to buy a new PS1 to get the 'new' feature... Little did they know they just had to get the new controllers... I'm sure Sony is hoping that people will fall for this again and start selling more PS3s when they bring this 'new' feature out... and you know they're going to try and market it as a new feature as well... wonder what they'll call it this time... Force Rumble Feedback?
    • by Rolgar ( 556636 )
Maybe it's already built in and they'll just activate it with another firmware upgrade?? Nope, they'll make you pony up the big bucks for 2 new controllers to replace the two you already have (assuming you have two of course).
    • Who knows... maybe it will be 'force feedback' and actually replicate the physical sense of 'motion' rather than simply having a range of shakeyness. Seriously, whats with people all of a sudden worshiping crap-tech? Rumble had nothing to offer; it didn't heighten the sense of immersion in the game and it didn't impact gameplay, other than making your hands sore.

AFACT all the noise is simply an excuse to beat on sonY again. Which is fine, I bought an HD5 (woe is me) but rumble, as it was, is nothing more

Actually that's not guaranteed yet. As IGN [ign.com] points out, Splitfish has developed technology that is both an addon and could be added to the existing design internally. So it's up in the air as Sony hasn't said word about whether they'll go with Immersion or Splitfish. And it's possible that even if Sony does go with Immersion for internal workings, Splitfish might figure out a way to get their

Is this supposed to be sarcasm? First off, it's obvious people would have to buy either new controller or a rumble add-on. Second, why would you hope they have to go buy new controllers? Don't be an ass.
  • "There are hooks in the PSP story that I actually wrote from one of my first stories for God of War 2."

Is it just me or is it unfortunate that they're already referring to the PSP story as second rate, since they wrote it for #2 but instead opted for something else? I guess that assumes that they would opt for the best possible storyline for the last flag-carrying game on the PS2.

Not to poo all over the series. It took a Greatest Hits edition of God of War to get me to try it. As long as the same direction
  • An actual reason to buy a PS3. Hopefully they'll have had a price drop by the time this hits too.
    • That's how I feel to... despite the salivation for more GoW, I can't stomach that PS3 pricepoint (and have spent the entire morning searching local stores for a 249$ Nintendo Wii). But if any game series can get me to want a PS3, its GoW.
  • didn't that shit just come out?

why isn't it exclusive to the ps3?

    • because ps3 it's too young, god of war 2 it's a great game and everyone will remember it for being the last great game for ps2(maybe) , instead if it was for ps3 it will be rememberd just as one of the first game for ps3. In a year or two we'll forget games like motorstorm, gears of war or zelda and we'll probabily say that they are crap like we did with old ps2 games or other old games
