Capcom and Valve Team For Steam Releases 32

Capcom titles will be appearing on Valve's Steam service, reports GameDaily. "The first game to come to Steam under this agreement will be Devil May Cry 3, scheduled for later this week. Following that in the next few weeks will be Onimusha 3 and then Lost Planet: Extreme Condition on June 26 (which is day-and-date with the retail PC version). And later this year Steam will get Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix."

  • Let me be the first to praise the gloriousness of Super Puzzle Fighter. It is an excellent puzzle game series. I'm glad it is being released anew.

It must be good with a name like that. Its turbo and HD.

Super Puzzle Fighter is the only 2-player puzzle game in existence that can incite a smack talk level of no less than 20 f-bombs per minute.

Great game, but the logic engine is flawed.

Pick Ryu (or anyone for that matter....that isn't named Dan). Hold down/right. Wait. Right side getting kinda full? Hold down/left. Wait, watch, win.

      Next?

        • You forgot "I paid for this and now I have to watch advertisements in games and every time I launch steam, etc, blah blah".
          • Firstly. GAME. Secondly. They're PICTURES. Out of place pictures (honestly, how many times do you go to a arabian place to fight terrorism and see a big freakin' Intel Core 2 Duo advertisement on a random ass piece of wall which serves no purpose and looks out of place) which are giving Valve a bit of money on the side. Good on em. Also, he forgot the whole "ADS CS!" "CS GAY!" etc. shit.

Perfect summary. I'd try to balance the rating if I had points just now. :)
    • I mostly agree with your sentiment, with one qualifier though. Steam is great for everything but LAN. Offline mode is really not LAN friendly, some of the multiplayer mods for HL2 refuse to even work. Even though its borderline illegal to LAN with multiple installs or whatever, its still a great way to expose other people to the games and get extra life out of them and considering its just as easy to get a hacked copy and online play never worked of pirated version before steam anyway, I think they kind of

I'm waiting for Super Hyper Puzzle Fighter II Max Turbo HDX2 Re-Remix Plus: Never Ending Dream Battle (with your wallet).
    • After all the critic ridicule for "Super Turbo" and "Alpha", I wonder why Capcom didn't just go for the year naming scheme used by EA for Madden NFL, by SNK for King of Fighters, by Microsoft for Windows and Office, and by virtually every automaker.

      • by KDR_11k ( 778916 )
Because then they could only release one game per year.
        • by mcvos ( 645701 )
Nonsense. They could still release Super Puzzle fighter 2007 Turbo HD NextGen: Kicking The Ass Of Even More Puzzles II Revisited.
          • by KDR_11k ( 778916 )
I know SNK uses years, makes it look quite strange when a game labelled 2003 lands on shelves in 2006.
    • Actually, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo was the first, and only, Puzzle Fighter game. The title was just Capcom's way of poking fun of themselves for the ridiculous number of different versions of Street Fighter 2 they put out.
      • True, but there was also Pocket Fighter with the same mini characters, and later "Super Puzzle Fighter II X: For Matching Service" which like the "Matching Service" version of Vampire, was kind of an ultimate customizable compilation of the different versions.
  • ..."Street Counter-Strike II Hyper Source Edition".

  • Whenever we're on a music-related topic this forum is full of people saying how online distribution is the future, how we should be cutting out the physical copies and the publishing middlemen, and just let artists deal directly with customers.

This is precisely what Valve have done with Steam in the games arena and all I ever seem to hear about it is naysaying and doom-mongery.

    It's quite funny really.
  • Capcom: I'm still waiting for a new Bionic Commando.
  • I really hope they updated it. Devil May Cry was one of the worst-executed PC ports in recent memory.
    • by DarkJC ( 810888 )
I doubt it, it's probably the exact same code. At least they appear to be getting better though; Lost Planet looks promising as a port, even if it did get average reviews. The demo is quite cool (no pun intended).
  • Capcom vs. Valve - HyperFighting Black Mesa Tournament? That would be spectacular! Ryu and Gordon Freeman vs. Sagat and the G-Man! What a beautiful sounding medley of combat that would make. "Round 1. Fight!" Ryu: "Hadooken!" *Spoof!* Gordon: ... *Crowbar smashing noises and Gravity Gun whirs* Sagat: "Tiger Uppercut!!" *Bash!* G-Man: "The right man in the wrong time." *heavy breathing*
  • I wonder why they picked Onimusha 3 over Dawn of Dreams. Since there are 5 playable characters in that game, one would think that would lend itself better to a Steam-type/multiplayer environment.
  • With letters which you could actually read if you weren't a kid, then it might be interesting.
