Grand Theft Auto VI in 2023? Take-Two SEC Filing Hints at Release Date (venturebeat.com) 28

Take-Two expects to spend $89 million on marketing during the 12-month period ending March 31, 2024. That is more than twice the marketing budget for any other fiscal year over the next half-decade, according to the company's recent 10-K SEC filing. From a report: Why is Take-Two planning to spend that much more on marketing in fiscal 2024? One of the most likely explanations is that is when the publisher expects to release Grand Theft Auto VI, according to analyst Jeff Cohen of investment firm Stephens. Each year, Take-Two files a 10-K with numerous financial details, including its plans for marketing spend for each year for the next five years. In its previous 10-K, Take-Two notified investors of a spike in marketing costs for fiscal 2023. But that spending has now shifted to fiscal 2024. This movement in spending likely reflects developer Rockstar Games' current plans for the release of Grand Theft Auto VI.

  • Do Chicago!

    • It's a shame political correctness prevents them from returning to London.
      • I guess it's more the fact that fist-fights and the occasional knife attack would make a dull GTA.
Also, with the blanket camera surveillance, you'd never be able to escape the cop's search radius.
Oh, and they drive on the wrong side of the road! That would just be confusing.

        • Also, with the blanket camera surveillance, you'd never be able to escape the cop's search radius.

Just have to choose the right victims.

        • Well that's why they originally set the London game in '69. Nice!

No CCTV everywhere and at least some guns, though still mostly fistfights and stabbings. Plus with the traffic moving on the otehr side, at least I'd fit in with my usual driving style.

  • If you can't drive around and cough COVID-19 on people while jacking their cars then I feel they phoned it in.
  • I just pray that Trevor is a main character in GTA VI. Show him all gray and grizzled being released from prison and boosting a car out of the correctional center's parking lot.

They've never carried a character from one release to the next; i doubt they'll start now. I'd say the best you can hope for is a cameo.

Yeah, you're right. But I would gladly welcome a Trevor cameo. I just feel like there is more to his character arc.

They carried Trevor from original GTA to GTA 5

  • The single-player campaign for GTAV was fantastic, and it was a real pity that they never made any DLC for it.

But I have a feeling that they'll focus way too much on online, like they did with GTAV, which I could never get into. Loading times were awful; it felt like I was back playing a PS1 game.

I hope they simplify and improve the controls. GTA has always been a bit fiddly and the cars never drive well. The three deep weapon circles and 20 different buttons just get in the way.

      • I don't think the controls are complicated - then again I play ARMA. Everything is a bit 'mushy' though, which I hope they don't change. That mushy, annoying vagueness is what makes it feel like GTA and it would be a shame if it just felt like every other Unreal Engine shooter.

      • I had a really hard time with the driving physics in GTAIV. It always felt like I was driving on ice, no matter what vehicle I was driving. Driving was much improved in GTAV, in my opinion.

Admittedly it's been a few years since I've played it. I don't remember the weapon circle being too bad, but I might just be misremembering that.

The controls are mostly fine, it's the phone thing or shooting while driving that makes it difficult. Then again, I'm playing it on PC using a Dual Shock 4 controller. The rampage stuff is also impossibly difficult. It'd probably be easier with a mouse and keyboard, but I've never got any routine doing that with GTA 5 since the game pad is so much better for everything else.

  • Remember when Epic gave away GTA V and it was super popular despite being quite old? Some of us more cynical people said all this will do is increase cheating as people now have a throwaway account that can get banned.

Well in what came as a surprise to no one, Epic fucked up yet another once great thing: https://metro.co.uk/2020/05/19... [metro.co.uk]

    • Well prior to this, I pretty much dropped the game as a result of having been "gifted" an enormous amount of money by cheaters, and Rockstar support doing nothing about it. Just no fun when you don't have to work for anything. It's definitely not a new thing, but I can see how this would make things far, far worse.

Wait, do you think that GTA5 wasn't "swamped by cheaters" before Epic's giveaway?

      Oh you naive summer child.

P.S. Since before this it was available on Steam, I guess it's Valve's fault by the same logic?

When did Valve give GTAV away on Steam? I missed that.

      • Wait, do you think that GTA5 wasn't "swamped by cheaters" before Epic's giveaway?

I'm not sure why you said "swamped by cheater" and put it in quotes. Who are you quoting, not me. Are you trying to say there wasn't an "increase cheating" (my words)?

Maybe practice some reading comprehension before you call someone naive while putting words in other people's mouth. Because that makes you look like a worthless shill.

P.S. Since before this it was available on Steam, I guess it's Valve's fault by the same logic?

Given how Steam never gave it away for free and only gave some pretty standard discounts, I'm actually going to double down and say "fuck off Epic shill".

  • I didn't love 4, but when I got some decent kit on my PC, I played it through again and it wasn't bad, really.

V just destroyed it for me. Ran the stories, it was ok. Perhaps it was all about the multiplayer, which is fair enough if you like that, not my franchise anymore. It seemed that the humour had gone. The music wasn't selected by someone talented anymore. It was more a Superman III or a Rocky IV. The franchise. But not good.

I'll skip whatever one year wait till we get a crap PC port too.

    • IV felt populated, had a lot of nooks and crannies to explore, had character, had funny radio/TV, good music, fun/unique car physics, the best implementation of the euphoria physics engine, a new graphics engine to showcase, etc.

V felt empty and uninspired, the cars felt like 100 other games, had friggin robocops (super accurate aim), euphoria physics were gimped (dont know how Rockstar keeps screwing it up... they lose a main programmer?), the graphics engine had aged, they messed up the slow-mo cinemat
