E3 2021 Announced as 'Reimagined, All-Virtual' Event Coming in June (polygon.com) 20

E3 will return in 2021 as a "reimagined, all-virtual" event, organizers announced Tuesday. E3 2021 will take place June 12-15, and will feature content from Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Konami, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, Warner Bros. Games, and Koch Media, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) said in a news release. From a report: Game developers and publishers will showcase their games at E3 2021 "directly to fans around the world," the ESA said. E3 2021 content will be free to access, thanks to unannounced global media partners. "We are evolving this year's E3 into a more inclusive event, but will still look to excite the fans with major reveals and insider opportunities that make this event the indispensable center stage for video games," said Stanley Pierre-Louis, president and CEO of the ESA. While this year's E3 will be virtual, organizers say they are planning for an in-person E3 2022.

E3 hasn't been relevant in forever - PAX is the gaming conference that matters.

Nope, PAX went woke ages ago, and basically stopped mattering because of it. It's a shadow of what it once was, just like E3.

Game conferences just don't matter in this day and age. You can just post videos and demos directly online. No need to force people into a convention center and make them wait in lines.

    • Really? I don't follow gaming conferences and cash grabs, but isn't E3 where many of the big name titles get announced? It's where we will heard about Fallout 4, Cyberpunk 2077, and where people are anxious to hear about Starfield and Hammerfell. All I know about PAX is that my MMO publisher goes there instead.

99% of games are crap, so I ignore most of them.

  • All the hardware is stuck in scalper’s basements they are effectively marketing their games to people who can’t play them.

Yeah... all of the PC graphics cards that can handle playing modern AAA gaming titles at 4K resolution are all being scooped up my scalpers and Ethereum miners.

You might as well just purchase a next gen gaming console instead, if you can even get a hold of one of those.

  • As someone who would tune and watch for Nintendo events but didn't really care for XBox and Playstation, I stopped caring when Nintendo just issued virtual Directs instead. Nintendo went virtual before everyone else and people stopped caring. I imagine it will be similar for the other platforms.
  • "Brazzers"

  • Wasn't that the buzzword of 2015?
  • Guys, is it only me or big games got really worse these days? I understand that because of the pandemic the quality got worse but in general, I think people are tired of big projects which demand tons of your free time. Community needs games which give you emotions fast and I believe games of chances can help with it. Take a look at this review https://www.theladycrypto.com/... [theladycrypto.com] . I think such games will be really popular now.
