Amazon Will Open Luna Cloud Gaming To Prime Members Later this Month

Amazon's new Luna game streaming service is offering no-invite access on Prime Day, June 21 and 22. From a report: During that time, Prime subscribers in most of the US will be able to start a 7-day Luna trial, and can now get discounts on a Luna controller and Fire TV bundle. To access Luna currently, you must request an invitation or own a supported Fire TV device. It's available on Windows and Mac PCs, Fire TV, iPhone and iPad (via the web) and on supported Android phones. It costs $5.99 a month to access games including Resident Evil 7, Control, Tacoma, Rez Infinite and Metro Exodus. Amazon is discounting the dedicated Luna controller by 30 percent from today until June 22, reducing it to $49 from the list price $70 for Prime members. On top of that, it's offering the Fire TV stick 4K and Luna Controller in the Fire TV Gaming Bundle for $74, a discount of around $45.

I think the sales pitch is you're basically renting a console for $5.99 a month (plus a comparatively small fee for controller and Fire TV) versus having to purchase a console outright every couple of years. Or forking out the money for an expensive gaming computer. And really, if your FireTV supports all the features of your TV, you really won't need to upgrade any hardware until you upgrade your TV, because it's just going to be streaming the same resolution to the Fire TV in a year or five years or how

Unfortunately for Amazon, Microsoft already has a $25 a month tier of game pass that includes the console, so there's not really a 'versus having to purchase a console outright'.

That's a relatively large price delta, there may be room for Amazon at 1/4 the cost of Microsoft. I don't know, I don't use either service.

If you have both of the channels, amazon is $21, so its really not that much of a difference.

Games are included in the price. They have two "channels" right now: Luna+ is currently $5.99 (intro price) and comes with a set of available games. They are also offering Ubisoft+ for $14.99/mo beta price for access to Ubisoft games. More info here: https://www.amazon.com/luna/la... [amazon.com]

For most people, they would blow through their data cap with 100 hours of usage. Sure it's getting closer to "Netflix" of gaming but data caps just kills the idea.

Which is a big plus, I already have too many floating around. With it following an actual subscription model this is already a more compelling offering than Stadia since it doesn't appear I have to "buy" games.

2. We all have to live under capitalism even if we don't like it. Are there worked owned co-ops offering game streaming services? No? Well then I have to choose a capitalist entity to purchase said service from anyway. One can both make critiques of capitalism while taking part in the system.

Playing games from a server based on the moon doesn't seem workable to me. Thats 3 second ping times at least.

I was on the Stadia beta, I have 400 abs up and 100 down, hardwired top line gaming rig. Resolution/artifacts was pretty bad, and the Assassin's Creed game I played was playable, but not something I'd pay money for. It's like you have a blu-ray but watch it on Netflix. The quality isn't as good, but the convenience is great.

I personally don't know anyone using Nvidia, Google, or whoever to stream games. Can anyone share their experiences?
