Amazon Luna Can Now Play Games You Own On PC, No Channel Subscriptions Required 18
Amazon Luna is one of the better cloud gaming options if you play a lot of Ubisoft titles, and it's getting a big upgrade this week. You can now sync purchases on Luna to PC and play without a subscription. 9to5Google reports: Since its launch, Amazon Luna has worked solely on a subscription model. Players can access games through "channels," each of which includes a rotating selection of games. One of those channels is Ubisoft+, which has a selection of Ubisoft games for $17.99/month that can share that subscription cost with other platforms such as PC. But the one downside of Luna is that you always need one of those subscriptions -- that is, until now.
Available starting today, Amazon Luna will allow players to stream Ubisoft games they've purchased on PC without any channel subscriptions needed. You just need accounts from Amazon and from Ubisoft and to purchase compatible games. The only subscription required is Amazon Prime. By syncing Ubisoft Connect with Luna, players can stream their purchases instantly with no downloads and on more devices, such as Chromebooks and smartphones. But unlike other cloud platforms that have allowed purchases, such as Stadia, these games can also be downloaded and played on PC. Amazon notes that once your accounts are linked, future purchases from the Ubisoft Store will automatically appear in Luna.

So I have to pay a subscription to Ubisoft, on top of a subscription to Amazon, month after month, and I only get to play cloud-games from 1 developer.
Sounds like just the thing I wanted. I'm sure it will be a hit in the vein of Stadia.

No.
You can use the subscription you are already paying to Amazon (Prime) to now be able to use PC software you already licensed from Ubisoft through a purchase on any hardware you own that can run Luna.
Example: you can now play FarCry 6 on a Chromebook or iPad if you bought FarCry 6 for Windows. And it's included with Amazon Prime so you aren't paying anything more.
Not really how you got all that the wrong way around, because it's basically the opposite of what you said.

it's the opposite of whats going on.
still, much like amazon video this is totally pointless for most of the world where you don't buy prime because it makes no sense as you can't access the main benefit of prime..

I just donâ(TM)t get the demographic theyâ(TM)re targeting, Steam provides streaming to my living room as well if I wanted to.

Maybe you would like to play it while on vacation, but don't want to haul a 45 pound gaming PC with you when you can bring an iPad and a PlayStation controller instead?

I actually played the Far Cry 6 campaign on Amazon's Luna and Nvidia's GeForce NOW while I was waiting for a new graphics card to make its way through the supply chain hellscape of 2020. It had use for me, and the price comparison was actually quite competitive against running your own gpu onprem when considering a regular upgrade cycle.
But, overall, I use my gpu for more than just games, my upgrade cycle is probably slower than average (I buy ultra high end and ride it out for 8-10 years), and there were a

What is Luna? It's the first sentence of the summary "Amazon Luna is one of the better cloud gaming options..."
Luna is Amazon's Cloud gaming platform, like Stadia, or the Razor thing, or what Microsoft and Playstation have.
Play games over the internet, instead of your computer being used to draw the polygons and do math and stuff, it just gets a "video" of the game play and relays the inputs.
I've used the Xbox one before and it works pretty good, even in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The one annoyance I'd have with it though is that every game requires you sign into the corresponding service first which is a pain in the ass, even more so if you have 2FA enabled.

That will bolster customer retention in both prime and luna.
is the path they took with prime video and other prime services...
since luna is more niche than other offering, an stand-alone option will remain, probably this integration will take the form of a (heavy) discount for prime members.
