Given the effort Nintendo puts into inventing and refining it's game mechanics (most of which I recognized from Mario) I would have expected a game that uses so many of those to cut corners in game mechanics which is incredibly hard to get right. I would have thought only Nintendo could make a game like this, largely because they can draw upon already made mechanics. This game looks to have be

Nearly every game is a captive audience to someone. I can't play Call of Duty on the Switch either, and the article specifically likens it to Mario (can you play that on either PlayStation or PC? No) The platform choice doesn't decide whether or not someone likes a game.
Again virtually everyone thinks the game is good, but the OP has a hateboner for IGN and thinks that makes him cool. Leave that attitude to the school playground, it doesn't belong on Slashdot where we are adults (or so I used to think).

Astro Bot is a great platformer. Can't deny that. Winning best family game made sense, but GOTY? Really? A PS5-exclusive basic platformer with little to no replayability? I'm not saying GOTY has to go to something crazy complex or long. But it should go to something that either has that, or sold better, or was released on multiple platforms. Astro Bot is no Super Mario Galaxy (the last pure platformer to win). Super Mario Galaxy had infinitely more depth by comparison and it's 17 years older. Likewise, Astro Bot isn't worth going out and buying a PS5.
