Submission + - IP guidelines for developer forums

An anonymous reader writes: Our legal department doesn't really understand the concept of developer forums. Their knee jerk reaction was, "unless you are given explicit permission" that using the contribution of the answerer on a forum is a violoation of their IP. Some places, like our beloved Stack Overflow explicitly tell you contributions are under the creative commons. But what about less organized forums? Anyone out there have what they consider "good" policies for how to use forums?
