Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel Impressions 16

John Callaham writes "HomeLAN gives its brief but hands-on impressions of Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, based on playing a build of the upcoming Interplay PS2/XBox console action game at last week's VUGames press event." There are also further impressions and screenshots of this title at Gamespot. While this new Fallout title has been vilified on Fallout fan sites for ignoring the more in-depth RPG leanings of its classic predecessors, those people who love the original PC series can at least now download the Fallout 2 editor from the Black Isle site.

Anybody know if any websites exist yet with extended levels created by the editor?

Fallout 1&2 have been my favourite computer games for years.

I've played each to completion over 30 times, and each game has been different. I've played smart characters, dumb chars, charismatic chars, good, evil, and just about every combination you can think of. I've played thieves, warriors, scientists, doctors ... I've completed them with almost zero combat skill. I've played fast games (what's the lowest lever you can complete it? shortest time?), long games (can I find everything?). Some games have lasted over 200 hours real time.

After 30+ completions, I think I've probably found everything there is to find in the game. But I'm not sure.

I played the Fallout: Tactics demo a bit. I never bought it. I think it's about AU$20 now, so maybe I'll pick it up.

But Fallout: BOS is of no interest whatsoever. Just like most games, I doubt there will be any replayability. And the graphics suck. You'd think in 6 years they could have improved the graphics over Fallout, but they definitely appear to have gone backwards. The graphics in Fallout give a real immersive feel. The screenshots of FO:BOS have the horrible, wrong-feeling 3D that you find in games like Morrowind.

Do youself a favour. If you've never played them, get copies of Fallout 1&2.
    • I'm really looking forward to hearing more about this game. Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is a great Diablo-esque game to mow through in co-op mode. I hope somebody who was involved in DA has a hand in this one too ... Sure, DA had nothing much to do with the rest of the Baldur's Gate games, but it's not as if either side suffered from that. It's fun, and who's saying it can't make a few people discover the deeper Baldur's Gate games as well?
    • Wrong-feeling 3D like in Morrowind? WTF? Are you smoking crack? Even from the demo you can tell that's completely not true.

Fallout Tactics is an action game, not an RPG. This is why most people didn't like it. They were hoping for Fallout 3 and didn't get it. I understand this. As it is, I enjoyed the game and plan to play it again soon.

I enjoyed every release of the Fallout series. Even though Fallout Tactics is not as much RPG as 1 & 2, I still enjoy playing it. No Mutants Allowed [nma-fallout.com] is an excellent Fallout resource. Maps, levels, editors, reviews, news...
  • I really want to make some new stuff for fallout, cuz it doesnt seem like theres going to be anything like it for a while. post apocalyptica doesnt seem to be a popular topic for rpg's... sad really. so drop me a line if you want to work on something. hell, if interplay won't make fallout 3, why dont we?
    • now this is something that seriously interests me
I am in the process of doing a little mod for UT2k3, but after that, I think this is where most of my modding is going to go.
Fallout has got to be one of my all time favorite games.
you can get my info at killall-9.org, the site is extremely old, but my info is still correct and checked.

Dynamically binding, you realize the magic. Statically binding, you see only the hierarchy.
