Metal Gear Solid 3 Confirmed For E3 24

Rainier Wolfecastle writes "IGN.com is reporting Konami has confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 3 will be debuting at E3 next week in Los Angeles. There's no word on what will be shown, but if past shows are anything to go by, it's sure to be impressive." There's also a slightly Japlish-influenced teaser image on the Konami Japan site. But truly, how excited are you after the somewhat controversial (was it epoch-making, or just decent?) Metal Gear Solid 2?

  • I think you mean Engrish [engrish.com], not Japlish.
  • Clone after clone after clone. Perhaps all game genres have been tapped out. There just doesn't seem to be anything new out these days, only rehashes of the same old same old.
  • Having seen the teaser image [konamijpn.com] was I the only one that thought "Metal Gay Solid 3!"?

Well, frankly, after getting over the initial enjoyment (even playing through and getting many of the dogtags, bonus items, and different animal types for final rankings) I felt MGS2 was a let-down compared to what I enjoyed about MGS. It is a good game, but MGS is better. I wrote about it [curmudgeongamer.com] a while back, and it comes down the better characterization, villains, and story

The gameplay/graphics were quite good for mgs2, but the story was an atrocity. Convoluted, unbelievable (even for a video game), and at times just silly. The voice acting was decent, but the dialog that drove that voice acting was just awful.

On a side note, the voice of Snake - David Hayter - cowrote the screenplay [imdb.com] for X-Men and X-Men 2.
  • If I could get there, I would be first in line. Or at the very least, I would sneak into the exhibit wearing a Cardboad Box.

  • ...this one actually has some game play.

I liked part 2, don't get me wrong, but when I sit down to play a game, i want to do just that. *Play* the game and not watch a movie...
    • You know what I like when I'm playing a game, or watching a movie? A SCRIPT THAT MAKES ONE OUNCE OF SENSE.

I mean, vampires? A plot to kidnap the president, who is for some reason on an oil rig? Every bad guy is some bioengineered decendant of the hero? Your girlfriend paging you every 3.5 seconds (while you're in the middle of a mission) to bitch about your relationship? WTF?

  • I predict after Ocelot dies of old age, Liquid Snake shall live on through Raiden by transferring his left butt cheek.
  • I've been waiting for a new MGS (or, to be corny and quote Liquid, "I've been waiting for this!") for a while now, having played MGS2 through to the point of boredom. As a friend pointed out on the Konami coutndown image, the image of the snake appears to be of Russia, could be an interesting setting for a new game. Naturally this would involve Ocelot to a great deal, although I have to say that although Ocelot is an interesting character in his own right, I'd prefer to see Liquid play a larger role in this

It's a mystery, inside an enigma, wrapped in a Newhart episode.
  • Will Gaseous Snake and Plasma Snake make their appearance in MGS3?
  • MGS2 overall was one of the best games I've ever played. It was true interactive entertainment. The engine was dynamic, dramatic, and the in-engine cinematics were(and still are) some of the best I've ever seen. Admittedly, the Raiden sequence and the end-of-game exposition were a little confounded, I still walked away thinking: "Godammit, that was great." I have confidence that MGS3 will push the envelope further in stealth gaming, and ideally, remain central around Solid Snake. And no, I can't say I'm

  • ...didn't Hideo Kojima say he wouldn't be involved in any MGS games after 2? Or am I mistaking him for someone else?
