New Xbox Controller S colors 28

Xs writes "Remember that survey Microsoft had a while back about cool colors for the Xbox controller? Well, the results are in! Green and blue are the two winning colors. They look pretty cool. They will sell for $29.99 each and hit the shelves in October." They do look better than I'd imagined. Makes me glad I waited on buying enough controllers for 4 player games.

  • Blue looked nice, although I was expecting a true "XBOX Green" controller.

Of course, I bought a GC, so it doesn't really matter to me... just a note.
  • When you can have the s-controller now, minus the green/blue collors. I still like the more bulky controllers that the X-Box originally came with since I have a fairly manly handsize. Although, I have to admit that having a smaller controller for the women that come over to play would be good. Its all about the game comfort!
  • The green one reminds me of somthing from the algea invested pool in the back yard when I was a kid. Sort of bloated and sagging, green with darker things inside, like a bag of frog eggs about to be burp out a bunch of tad poles.

I always forget who's hands they originally modeled controller on? Paul Bunion or Shaq? -n

It's about time they cashed in on the lucrative interior designer market. That Bobby guy from the Anna Nicole show will be thrilled I'm sure.

Why not make controllers with features gamers actually care about? Like: Can I hurl this at my TV without it breaking?
  • Sony has done this with the PS2, but instead of custom designed controllers, they made the entire system "themed" as a special edition. Much nicer IMHO. Link to one of them here [lik-sang.com]. Colors are interesting, a little too pastel and smells like hello kitty :)
  • As an Xbox owner with a very SO, I have to keep my games and gear camouflaged in her domain. (Hmmm, camouflaged controller for Ghost Recon).I showed her the new colored controllers and she stated that "Black goes with anything".

On another note, CoyboyNeal said "They do look better than I'd imagined. Makes me glad I waited on buying enough controllers for 4 player games.". What color do you like, and what Xbox 4-player do you recommend?
  • Why won't they be available earlier? I recently saw a limited edition XBox in stores over here (Austria). It has the same transparent green colour as the two S-controllers that come with it. See [xbox.com] for yourself. If they can sell the controllers in Europe why would they wait for five months before offering them in America? The limited edition looks like an okay deal, but as long as they don't offer live over here I will stick with my GameCube.

Just saw that Ireland has the same offer. Enjoy [xbox.com] the same page as be
  • Controllers are just waay too expensive. And 3rd party version always give me problems (like tapping a button quickly in succession doesn't respond always).

Can't these guys lower their prices just a bit? How much profit are they making on their outragious pricing? Gotta be at least 50% markup.

    Anyone know?

    • I'm not sure why you are trolling, but here are some of my observations:
      1. My xbox stacks well in my entertainment center. Granted, I have a large center, so I never noticed the scale.

      2. Your redundant use of Halo as the sole game for the Xbox is a bit misleading. Granted the titles are a bit limited compared to the PSX systems, but they are growing. Here are just a few Xbox Games worth the time to look at. Some are rental-only, but others are definite keepers:

      1. 1 Halo
        2 Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
        3 Tony Hawk P
      • Out of 20 games you listed, only 6 are exclusive to the X-Box. Between a PC and a PS2 (and even a Gamecube) you can play the other 14 right now.

The exclusive ones you selected with rankings (in the format Gamespot Reader Score/IGN Score) are:
Halo (9.1/9.7), Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee (8.5/7.4), Project Gotham Racing (8.6/8.8), MechAssault (9.0/9.2), NFL Fever 2002 (8.7/7.9), Panzer Dragoon Orta (9.2/9.2)

If they stick to the PC release date, knock Halo off that list in 4 months.

        Presuming you listed the b
      • I'll definately keep my eyes open at E3!

Maby, if you're lucky, the'll have Halo 2:

You can double your XBOX collection!

        • Nice Troll but I feel I must clarify. I own a PS1, PS2, GC, and an Xbox. In addition to consoles, I have the opportunity to beta some PC games as well. I am not bragging, just stating the facts. CowboyNeal has just as many consoles. My game collection is already pretty extensive. Thank you for your concern. Contrary to your attempt at sarcasm, I am looking forward to a playable H2 demo. Of course, it is still some time away.
          • H2 will be fun - I'm just having fun sipping beer and doing a bit of MS troling.

He'll - the XBOX is nothing like some of the orpans I've had over the years: Arari Jaguar, NCE TurboGrafix and the Virtual Boy - those were orphans.

            Cheers.
          • You're well set then, I own all of those minus the X-Box because the X-Box just isn't worth what they're charging for what you get IMO. When it's down around $100 I'll probably pick one up if the X-Box 2 hasn't come out yet.

You get to play all of the quality titles and you can graphics/feature shop for the subtle differences between them. I'm a little jealous of your gaming resources honestly.

If you had to own(as in could only afford) only 2 of the consoles you listed, which 2 would you own?
  • Damn, I was hoping that the orange one would make the cut. I really liked it.
  • Considering how modders add lights and cases I dont know why they didnt just make the colors of the rainbow. Why blue and green? Add red, yellow, grey, purple, rasberry, tangerine, etc...

The die is the same its just the color of the plastic. Also where are the steady or blinking LEDs on the inside.
Has it not been proven that blinking light things attract people like flies to poo? Cell phones, mice, computer cases, fans, Las Vegas...
  • Makes me glad I waited on buying enough controllers for 4 player games.
No, you're kidding. Right? Halo's like the only reason to own an XBox in the first place, and you don't even have 4 controllers?! :-P
  • But what is Penny Arcade supposed to joke about, now that the Xbox controller is smaller and more stylish?
    Oh, the humanity!
  • I sure hope that they release some more colours later on. I would have preferd some of those other colours. I'll probably still end up buying the blue and green ones though. They should also release those different colours with the big sized controller. I use it more often than the controller s.
