Splinter Cell - Pandora Tomorrow Announced 12

Tim Grube writes "Ubi Soft have put out a press release revealing the next Splinter Cell title in development. It's called Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow (here's more screenshots at Gaminghorizon), and will be released on all next-gen consoles in early 2004." Prominently mentioned is multiplayer co-operative online play, a definite plus for the new iteration of this stealth action franchise.

This is a bit off topic, but does the term "next-gen" consoles bug anyone else in the way it's used above.

It seems to me, that the term "next-gen consoles" should refer to the next generation of consoles. So you would use it to refer to X-Box 2, Playstaion 3, and the Gopher (Nintendo's next console, yes I made that code name up). You'd use it now to refer to those consoles. You'd use it after they had come out but it was still quite common for new games to come out on current consoles because they are still so common and big. You don't use the term "next-gen" to refer to the CURRENT generation of consoles when the "true" next-gen consoles are at least a year or two away.

Why? It's confusing. If you read what was submited, it sounds like the sequel to Splinter Cell will be comming out for the PS3, XBox2, and Weasle (maybe that's a better name ;). But they are comming out for the CURRENT consoles

Would it have been that hard to write "...released on all major consoles in early 2004."? No.

    • It's marketing spin, that's all. You live with it.

Incidentally, I hear that the Weasel will actually have a total of 7 games released for it over its lifetime! Yup, 2 Zeldas, 2 Marios, a Wario, Super Smash Brothers, and Splinter Cell

      I can't wait!

Doesn't it bother anyone else that Sam has 3 green lights on his forehead and a big green light on his back?

Situation: Sam hides in the shadows watching a guard...

Guard:"I thought I saw a guy running around and making noise but now all i see is 3 bright green lights in a dark corner that follow me around the room...musta been rats I guess"

    • I know you're joking, but for those asleep at the wheel: The green lights are a design decision so that players can see where the hell they are when they are hiding in the shadows. Otherwise, the game would get really confusing really fast.
  • Those are nice screenshots but I don't know how excited I can get about a game that's quite a ways off and wasn't even far enough along in development to be displayed at E3.

Although, multiplayer mode has me foaming at the mouth, but just a little bit. Since there's not a whole lot of information posted concernig this new Splinter Cell, here's a little poll. Which game did everyone like better Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid 2? And...which game are you more looking forward to, Metal Gear Solid 3 or Splin

I wasn't all that impressed with Splinter Cell, to tell the truth. The graphics were great, the feel of the game wonderful, and the lock-picking one of the most creative and realistic representations that I've seen, but the idiocy of the game-play pretty much ruined it for me. That and piss-poor attention to detail, such as repeatedly showing stock tickers with red up arrows. I honestly don't have a lot of hope they will put out a game worth buying, as the current one really isn't, IMHO, of course.
