Classic Gaming Expo Guests Unveiled 11

Thanks to GamePro for running a new article discussing the recently announced guest list for the Classic Gaming Expo, to be held in Las Vegas on August 9th-10th. Honored guests include Franz Lanzinger (the designer of Crystal Castles), Warren Davis (the creator of Q*Bert), and Howard Scott Warshaw of Yars' Revenge (and E.T.!) fame, alongside more than 40 other classic gaming heroes, plus retro bleep soundtracks from the Micromusic crew. The Intellivision TV Game system we covered a few days ago will also be making its US debut at CGExpo.

Reminds me of Hubbard, JCL, and all the chip artists who brought about a revolution in gaming music.

Brings a tear to my eye. Long live the SID6581!

If you're thinking of going, (or even if you're not thinking of going), make an effort to go to CGE. This is the mother-ship of classic gaming shows, and the place to meet the people who made the classic games a reality. You won't be dissapointed.

Howard Scott Warshaw of Yar's Revenge (and E.T.!) fame

How embarassing! That's like being introduced as the producer responsible for Citizen Kane (and Battlefield Earth!)

What's embarrassing is that the guy who posted the article spelled it "Yar's Revenge" when anyone who played the game can tell you it's SUPPOSED to be "Yars' Revenge" since you're avenging a race known as "The Yars".

The humiliating part comesalong once you click on the link he provided and the main graphic on the page has it spelled properly.
  • And once the expo is over they can lose some money playing all those slot games that evolved from technology they helped develop.
  • "Howard Scott Warshaw of Yar's Revenge (and E.T.!) fame"

Yar's Revenge is well regarded by those who remember it, but didn't E.T. help destroy Atari, business-wise?

Is inviting this guy like inviting Ken Lay to your energy conference?
  • August 9th-10th in Vegas. I'm there. Anybody heading to this also?
