Fan-made Mega Man Movie Trailer Debuts 26

FortissimoWily writes "Following last week's rumors regarding Warner Bros. wanting to produce a Mega Man feature film, an amusing and very entertaining live-action fan-made movie trailer (which was created for a college project) has been making the rounds today, and is now being hosted on fansite Planet Mega Man in several resolutions [there's a BitTorrent link for the hi-res version, via GameTab]. Now, if only such a full-length movie were real..." That Dr.Wily can be so cantankerous, eh?

Perhaps /. should NOT post links to sites hosting large files (such as movies) without first contacting the webmaster to see if their server(s) can handle the load?

Posting link's to Apple's Quicktime site can sometimes cause connection problems, so if this guy is hosting from his DSL...I think we just toasted his machine. =P

The site isn't Slashdotted as of right now, because this is only a Games subpage post, but it was starting to slow down a bit (to under 50k/sec), so we got GameTab to throw up a BitTorrent of it, much kudos to them, yay.
    • Hardly, i could stream the hi-res with no problems... but i feel quite evil. ;)
      • Speaking on behalf of Planet Mega Man, yesterday was our grand unveiling of the new site layout. We brought all of the major content back on-line yesterday and, as a result, we experienced "server shock" as it raced to keep up and reallocate its resources. It's fine as of this morning though. We went from having a couple weeks of 100 hits to having just under 4,000 yesterday, so coupled with the Slashdot news matters were complicated for a bit.

Slashdotted? It's a Japanese cartoon thing. Hardly anyone is interested in Japanese cartoons, so they expected 3 hits per day on the web site. Now they have all these Slashdotters hitting the site thinking it is "Amiga Man".

rarely match up to the hype/expectations. Rather than name all the ones that have disappointed (Super Mario, Tekken, Final Fantasy, Tomb Raider, etc.), which ones have really succeeded? Is there any hope for a good movie from a video game? This Mega Man pseudo-trailer was interesting but what are the chances that the real thing would even be worth watching? Slashdotters, what makes a good Game-to-Big-Screen translation?
    • I, personally, thought that Resident Evil was a good movie. Albeit, it really didn't follow much of the game's story line, the ending was a perfect setup for Resident Evil 2, though.

You were excited about the Super Mario movie?

    • I know someone who wants to make a movie of Dan Gable's life story (a college/Olympic wrestler). After hearing the rough outline (wins every collegiate match except his last match, then wins Olympic gold medal), I knew that it would make a horrible movie, and the reasoning applies to games as well. Basically, the premise for the movie is your run-of-the-mill zombie movie. (Maybe that's why it worked for Resident Evil.) Instead of one protagonist and one antagonist, you've got one protagonist and hundreds o

Not bad for a fanmade trailer. Check it everyone! I am not a Mega Man fan either.
  • what a small world. i check /. for worldly information, and come to find out whats been going on no less than 100ft from me.

    w00t! go peacocks!

  • B-Movie? yes very

But.... With the possible exception of Resident Evil (I hated it but a lot of people thought it was at least watchable) there aren't really any good game to movie adaptations, i suppose that this has no less a chance than any other attempt that has been made thus far to be good.

Besides, when your watching a cheaply done movie, your not expecting perfect special effects or flawless cinematography. The bar is held a little bit lower, and so if the rest of the content is solid, it may ac
  • I can give credit to the "rock" character, playing a nice homage to Rockman, but the compositing was terrible. The shot of Wily flying away was HORRIBLE, as was the shot of Rock on the table. Why was there SO much moving in the composite shots? The 3d looked decent...
  • Fanimatrix ... I think this one rocked .. only 85 $ .. cool .. Maybe some polish and it would be perfect for a fan made movie .. much better than some hollywood crap .. And the music rocked by the way
