Gran Turismo 4 To Be Delayed Again 34

still_sick writes "Although it was reported last week that Gran Turismo 4 had Gone Gold, the long awaited title will again be delayed. "Natural challenges with finalizing all the key features and localization issues across worldwide territories have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date in order to ensure that Gran Turismo 4 lives up to the exacting standards of the 36 million-plus fans worldwide that have purchased previous versions""

So are they going to put the online features back in? I rather wait for a version with online capablities instead of buying a online version later.

      I doubt it.

Sounds like they ran across a show stopping bug in the final test run to me. I doubt they'll rock the boat by trying to add features back in - they need to keep the code stable and just fix the bugs.

Yeah. Like the fact that the online multiplayer functionality wasn't working. My prediction: Japan gets GT4: Offline edition, and an online addition in March. The US simply gets GT4: online edition in march, because they know nobody will buy GT4 twice.

The Japanese ship date is DEC 28th and the US ship date is between JAN and MAR? I would imagine the major features have been completed this late in the development cycle. Would it take much longer to handle the English localization? Instead of "Start your engines", GT4 could have "Someone set up us the bomb."

I guess I'd rather have a non-buggy game than a game with bugs since GT4 will consume most of my free time.
    • I am so worried about the Car Names. I hated the old Gran Turismo when they referred to cars entirely by their japanese marketing names. If the car is available in the U.S, call it by the U.S name!

Speaking of which, does anyone know where I can find a CAR LIST for GT4? Specifically a reliable one?

      • http://www.google.com/search?q=gran+turismo+4+car+ list&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

i have no problem that the toyota alettza (lexus is300 in the us) had a different name. its probably easier that the pubisher only had to get one trademark license from toyota than getting another license from lexus as well.
  • I ordered this game online through Best Buy, so hopefully they won't screw up the order since it will ship a lot later than intended.
  • I'd read somewhere that there were going to be two releases of GT4. This one, whenever that is, and another one later with more features?

    That true?

I said about a year ago that I was going to buy a ps2 for this game when it came out. Looks like the ps2 purchase will be delayed once again. Let's just say I'm not holding my breath for the 28th at this point.
    • well, at this rate, you may see another price drop on the PS2 before GT4 comes out...so this delay is saving you, and others of a like mindset, some scratch.

Polyphony Digital: Saving you money through production delays!
    • You and I made the same decision--look at it this way, but the time GT4 comes out, the amount that the PS2's price has dropped will pay for the game.
      • By that logic, I should be glad that DNF has been delayed longer than the second coming of Christ, because when it does finally come out I will have already upgraded my computer so I can run Longhorn.

Can anyone actually deliver a popular title on time anymore?
  • Here's why:
    • World of Warcraft
    • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
    • Ace Combat 5: Forgotten War
    • Half Life 2
Thank you, and have a nice day.

I agree with your point to a point.

If anything, this delay will make it more likely for me to buy this game. By March or so, I'll be ready for a new release, and GT4 will hopefully be waiting for me there...
    • You mean, Ace Combat 5:Unsung War. I got a PS2 demo disc in the mail yesterday and one of the demos on it was Ace Combat 5:Unsung War. Not trying to be mean, just nitpicking...
    • World of Warcraft
Meh. i enjoyed Warcraft 2, but I don't have the time or patience to play this.

      Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Yeah, it's pretty good, but it doesn't really grab me like Vice City did.

      Ace Combat 5: Forgotten War
      Never even heard of it.

      Half Life 2
I'd love to play this, but not only would I need to buy and install Windows I'd also need to buy a whole new PC to run it.

I've had Gran Turismo 4 on pre-order for a good 6 months now and it's still the game I'm most anxious to play.

  • It's too bad GT4 is going to miss XMas, but Need For Speed Underground 2 and Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition should clean up quite nicely in its stead. Both of these have borrowed a big page from the Gran Turismo book in terms of allowing a maddening level of customization through aftermarket auto parts. This is definitely going to take some who would have been buying GT4. Not only that, NFS and MC3 both have online play.

GT4 will still do well whenever it comes out, but they are definitely going to lose some s
    • well, midnight club isn't coming out until january
    • I'll be glad when NFSU2 gets a physics model as complicated as Gran Turismo's, and as much car-setting ability as sophisticated, so that the level of parts customization actually has some meaningful and maybe even vaguely accurate effect. Anyone who can afford a bubble alignment gauge and about $2500 in suspension components (a lot more people than you may think, especially if you buy the stuff over a few years) can tune their suspension to the same degree as in Gran Turismo games; front and rear camber, c

They lost my sale when they dropped online play.

Honestly, once you've played a sim-quality racing game online with other people, you never want to play singleplayer again.
