EverQuest 2 Things You Wish You Knew 31

IRex writes "EverQuest 2 is a great game with less than great documentation. There are literally dozens of commands hidden where nobody but the most persistent sleuth will find them. With that in mind TenTonHammer has posted a list of Things you wish you knew earlier in EverQuest 2 compiled and edited with permission from a list originally created by Sere of the Blackburrow server." From the list: " If you see a "lair" object in the world such as a rats nest, snakes nest, sabertooth tent, etc... with the appropriate type of mob around it, this is probably a dynamic adventure camp. If you kill everything in the camp, the next time it spawns it may spawn harder creatures, named monsters, etc..." Going through town is like a a slide show. Less than 1 frame per second on a buddy's machine. It was so painful that he canceled the game after a week. This was after playing old EQ since pre Kunark.

Find it completely funny that the editors decided to make sure they notified us that the opinions in the story are not their own?

I mean... we all know the editors opinions are pretty shoddy, so does this mean the story is spot on? ...or does it mean the story uses a lot of 4-letter words and 'leet speak?

    Man... DAMN YOU EDITORS!!

Now I am going to have to read the article... it was all a ploy, I'm sure.

I think the editors meant the story summary didn't match their opinions... and the first line in the summary states that "Everquest 2 is a great game"
  • This has been on the Launchpad for weeks. If you haven't checked it out, just like the Basic Crafting, and Advanced crafting guides...well, you should be! Lots of good info here, like a, How to get EQ2 to run and what options you should turn off to get a better framerate.
  • You can have up to 3 hotkey bars active.

that's odd, I have 5, two are for tradeskill skills, i have them square rather than 1 key wide/high

when you close them, new hotkey bar will open them the same shape and place as last time but with a different (0-9) set of hotkeys
    • three HOTKEY bars. you can have many more button bars.

      [1234567890-=] is the first bar
      ALT+[1234567890-=] is the second
      CTRL+[1234567890-=] is the third.

the others are just button bars.

before I got billed for my first month...

Since release, people have been asking for more than 4 character slots per account (that's right, not 4 per server, which is still a little low, 4 per ACCOUNT). SoE didn't comment for a month.
A couple days before the new billing cycle, someone discovered that when he switched to the $22/month "Station Pass" (which gives access to all SoE games a person might own, except for SWG) he got an additional 4 slots. After about a day of debating on the boards, one of the Mods formally announced that yes, they would be adding 4 character slots, but only for the people who paid an additional $7/month.

I'm what's known as an alt-o-holic, I like to experiment with the diffent classes. I'm not going to validate SoE's decision to gaff people who want more than 4 characters. Hell, when I switch to WoW next week, I can get something like 8 characters per SERVER if I really wanted to. For the same price as the BASE EQ2 subscription.

I'm guessing that SoE really didn't want to announce this "special option" (which isn't so special for those like me who had no interest in any of their other games) until after the billing cycle, so they could get another $15 from the people they knew would quit. Yea I"m out the $50 for the game, but I'm not throwing new money after bad, I cancelled my account.

I'm certain that Sony will try to get at least $30/player by mid year next year for a "reasonable" level of features.

Same old Sony. I should have known better. Never again.

    • WoW is eight characters per server, and up to 50 total over all servers, all as part of the standard fee. You pay no extra for each of these characters. I already have five characters created, simply because I was playing around with various classes and races.

On PVP servers, you can only create characters belonging to one faction, either the Horde or Alliance. On normal and roleplaying servers, you can create characters belonging to either faction.

Coming from FFXI where you get one character total an

    • Personally, I'm ok with their decision to do this. But before you mod me down, please listen to my reasoning.

Sony was the first TRUE king of MMORPGs. UO rocked, but EQ blew it out of the water in terms of ROI and subscribers. But now the MMORPG world is saturated. New contenders need to be truly innovative, and truly good at giving gamers what they want.

Sony is taking the approach of "hey, its a skinner box...they'll keep paying no matter what we do or how much we charge for it". Ultimately, this gives

  • Why does every story about EQ2 turn into a flamefest between it and WoW? This was intended to help out, eventhough a lot of what this guide tells us is pointless, simple, or wrong.
    • Probably because SoE inspires that kind of hatred in those that aren't so blinded by addiction that they defend SoE like a crack whore trying to keep her abusive pimp out of jail because he's the only one who will give her drugs.

Just look at any thread about the character slot thing, and you'll see some of the most sycophantic idiots that ever lived praising SoE for taking more money out of their pockets for a feature that should have been in the game from the start. A feature that STILL doesn't compare wi
