Make Something Unreal Winners Announced

The Make Something Unreal Finalists have been whittled down to the last and the Contest Winners have been announced. The grand prize (A full Unreal engine license and $50,000) for a mod goes to Red Orchestra, Russians vs. Germans in The Great Patriotic War. First place for an UT movie goes to Journey, and is well worth the download time.

Yeah, I was hoping Air Buccaneers [ludocraft.oulu.fi] would win (they received third place). Definitely a fun mod when lots of people are playing. A kind of unique concept as well.

well, now they have a free license to build a commecial game, which means they need to come up with $350,000 less initial investment to get a small company started. sounds like a good deal to me :)

As is to be expected, some of the bigger files are downloading slowly, I'm currently downloading the 210mb of bot [digitalyolk.com] (2nd place movie) goodness at about 15kb/s.

Any torrents (or at least major mirrors) going around for the bigger files?

So, the grand prize isn't $1,000,000? Do they call it the $1,000,000 contest because that's what the license is worth? If that's the case, it's a serious scam, in my book. I understand the value of a license, but I know most people thought the prize was actually the money... not just $50,000, but the whole million.

Speaking of the prize, come tax time will the winners have to declare $1,000,000 in income? Valueable goods (a software licens) is as taxable as cold hard cash. A million $US would put anyone in

actually the total prizes is over one mill, but it sounds better for marketing.

And yes, the winners are responsible for declaring their wins on the taxes.

The total prize pool is $1,000,000, divided across the four phases and... erm... I can't be bothered counting the categories. The license isn't included in the prize total (the $$$ came from nvidia, the license came from epic).

The prizes given out during the entire contest total 1MUSD. That's a common advertising tactic for lotteries and the like, always listing the total value of all prices involved instead of the most valuable price one participant can win.

Some of the most innovative gameplay I've seen in an FPS. Needs a little more polish, but I hope the devs will stick with it. I quit due to WoW but I'm gonna get back into it now that I've got a faster box.

Agreed, AirBucs is truely one of the most fun games ive ever played... theres something about the forced teamwork aspect of it...its just plain fun :D
