Classic Games Art Gallery 15

wanker256 writes "If you were intrigued by the 4-story Pixellated Mario Mural, then here is an art gallery that you will be sure to enjoy. On April 19th through May 20th, the iam8-bit exhibit will be present the talents of over 100 of the world's top artists who have put their fond gaming memories to paper, canvas, wood, or somewhere in between. So if you ever wanted to analyze the crazed image of a Burger Time sausage gone ballistic or Space Invader doing disco, this is the art gallery to attend."

Apparently the event will be hosted by Geraldo (aka Rico Suave. Remember him?)

    It's an all-Flash site. Sigh.

But, on a lighter note, it mentions the bar being tended by the Suicide Girls :)

Wowa, how did they manage to combine something I love (8 bit graphics) with three of the most annoying features of our modern world.

Geraldo, an all Flash site, and the Suicide Girls. A tri-fecta of things I hate representing what was a major part of my youth. This cannot end well.

Someone keep me away from my buried munitions and small army of deadly trained simians, I'm not sure if I'll be able to take this destruction of fond memories...

      It's Gerardo, with an 'R'.

And I wouldn't take a drink from a suicide girl bartender anymore than I would let a toddler compile my apache install.

Unfortunately, I have flash and did check out the gallery. I was not impressed. I am moving a couple thousand miles away and considered for a moment that a little wicked videogame related artwork would be interested in my walls. After checking out the gallery, I don't think I'm interested. None of it struck me as much more than the stuff you see at the starving-artist booths at a comic book convention (and no, I haven't been to a comic convention in almost two decades - since I was twelve years old).

I like the idea. Just don't like the execution (that I saw so far, at least).

8-bit shows were so already done. Perth, Western Australia, 1998. Enschede, Netherlands, 1999, 2001, 2004.

Good to see someone's cashing in on this phenomenon late, in Melrose...
  • It's classic, and you can do art. It's time it get's some light.

  • Are those so-called "Suicide Girls" still around? You'd think they'd have gotten on with it already.

Let's organize this thing and take all the fun out of it.
