  • ...If you dont live near New York City, you're fucked!
    • So THAT'S what Nintendo World is........

We did banners for "Nintendo World Rockefellar Center May 14th 1-5pm" banners at work a couple weeks ago. I was googling and everything for info on it and couldnt' find anything.

At least I finally know. i was gonna head down there on that day to see what it was.
  • Why the hell is in NY, should have been SF or LA. I want GT4 on my GC.
    • That post doesn't make any sense at all.

Nintendo already had the store space in NYC; if I'm not mistaken, this store was the old Pokémon Center.

The store's location doesn't have anything to do with regional sales, though. The store isn't in NYC because people there don't buy enough Nintendo products. If the Gamecube was unpopular in the city, then why waste the effort to open a store that's dedicated in large part to it?

And GT4 will never be on the Gamecube. Ever. Sony owns and publishes th

    Um...no.

His name is Kid Rock [amazon.com]. There's no such person as Kid Rocking.

I know that he's from the area around my hometown and all, but I still think that that one shouldn't have gotten through. First time I've ever been compelled to correct the editors, so yo should be ashamed of yourselves. :)

    • You didn't get the joke. Like someone with mod points giving a -1 Troll to something that deserves a +1 Funny, you missed the point.

Mr. Rocking isn't on the A list any longer. He's actually a rung BELOW Bruce Campbell. What kind of celebrity do they get to do these cheesy grand openings? People who were famous at one point. Like Kid Rock. It's a little joke, see?
  • Bonus ponits for using googlemaps to show the location ;)
  • how long will it be before this store closes? It just doesn't seem viable to me to operate such a large store at the location they are shooting for. Granted if all they are looking for is a place to showcase all things Nintendo, why not build a museum and offer a giftshop?
    • Normal rules don't apply in Manhattan.

A new building was recently put up on the south-west corner of Central Park (the Time-Warner building). The top floors are residential, and the top two floors sold for a combined 44 million dollars (making it the most expensive Manhattan real estate purchase ever). A STUDIO apartment in the building sold for over 1 million dollars.

The mid-section is all commercial space, and the bottom 3 floors are for stores. Samsung has a massive "showcase" on the third floor that's

It actually opened up today,b tu the event isn't until Saturday. I work in Rockefeller Center, so I took a stroll through it this afternoon.

It's pretty cool. There are TONS of stations set up to play Gamecube, DS, and SP games. There's an area set up on the first floor with a round table and a bunch of DS's so people can easily play wirelessly with eachother. There are also SPs and DSes hooked up to monitors to play (the DSes have two). Then there are there uber surround sound chairs with large screens for Gamecubes, as well as E3-boot like Gamecubes hooked up to LCD screens.

Lots of Pokemon stuff of course, and a large accessory section.

The Nintendo museum thing is all right, but it's not very big. It's itneresting to look back at old NES hardware, though, especially the Japanese-only accessories like the keyboard.

It's worth stopping in if you're in the area, but it's not worth planning some big road trip to go see.
  • I remember having a Captron World of Nintendo store in my local mall... got to see such things as the Game Boy and the Power Glove!
