Huge NES Collection PAX Omegathon Prize 35

Joystiq brought to my attention the enormous collection of NES games currently up for bid on eBay. From the auction: "First off 776 nintendo nes games.. THAT is only 10 games from having the complete set of usa released nes games...I quit collecting six or seven months ago, but i'm sure the last ten games are on ebay right now.. this list is far to long for a two finger typer like myself to type so I'll try to make this as easy as possible.. First thing you need to do is google search MIKE ETLER'S RARITY LIST.. Print this list out... You need the first 17 pages.." Amazingly, Tycho Brahe (of PA) wrote in to mention that "We just picked this up to be the Omegathon Prize at PAX." Quite an incentive, eh?

Clicky [ebay.com] to see the item details. Of course, bidding has already ended and it sold for more than US $10,000!
  • .. if it were a ROM-set on a CD I could download from Torrent ..

Okay, I jest. I definitely would not like to own so many NES games for my emu box .. okay, yes i would.

    d'oh! stupid ethics!
    • ed2k link- paste into your edonkey client of choice:

      ed2k://|file|[Roms]%20Nintendo%20NES%20-%20GoodN ES %20v2.01%20(10783%20roms)%20by%20PandMonium%20(the %20most%20comprehensive%20collection).rar|20201836 2|FE2A438709B94A39A159286EFC0664B7|/

      and watch the download begin.
remove the spaces /. inserts in links. this is a complete goodNES set, v 2.01
      • eMule's been sitting there for the past half hour without a single byte downloaded. Any links through other services like BitTorrent?
        • This [mininova.org] oughtta do ya fine. Haven't tested it though, so it might be down. The web page says there's a good number of seeds, though. So start your engines. :D

By the way, I've found that emule downloads go faster during the second half, when you have parts of the file that most others who are downloading the file don't. It's that credit system.
  • He has a $10,000+ reserve and he couldn't post a single picture of the collection? No way would i pay that much without at least seeing the huge pile of stuff at least.
    • Yeah, and he couldn't even be bothered to do a proper link [nesworld.com] to the list of games he references, instead telling us to Google it!

Anyway, I did, and Google spellcheck said "Do you mean Mike Hitler's rarity list?"
      Um.. no...

AFAIK, external links are not allowed on ebay.

That's probably why he did it this way.
  • They're NE-friggin_eSs games! Who hasn't played them to their heart's delight already? Who still cares about them and doesn't own all their favorites? I'm guessing whoever wins this "prize" will dump them on ebay for $10,000.

Step 1. Win auction of NES games for $10,000+
Step 2. Sell all NES games on ebay for $10,000
      Step 3. Prof... oh, crap.
  • I've already just about reached the 50% level, so no way am I paying that much to get half those titles all over again. One copy of the world's worst version of Xenophobe is enough for me.

As someone in TFA said, no power glove? But "It's so bad!" [x-entertainment.com]

    Meanwhile, PA is TU.

    • Damn, I finally got to look at the "exceptions" list. I already have Big Nose Freaks Out, Toxic Crusaders, Tiny Toon Adventures, Moon Ranger, and Mario Bros., so I could have been only FIVE games away from a complete collection! (I have the box to Trolls On Treasure Island, but not the game)

Then again, I'd still be missing Bubble Bath Babes, Hot Slots, and Peek-a-Boo Poker. Oh well.

And the collection did have a Power Glove, after all.

  • Quote from the article: A woman on eBay is selling "a collection of games and ass.

I didn't get any further. This prize is MINE!
  • I'd be very wary if I were bidding on this. I would definitely use a third party escrow account, considering the amount of money involved. This is the first sale the seller has ever made, and the last two purchases that have links are for stickers. Add to that the fact that not a single image of the collection is posted. I hope this sale is legit, but it really smells like someone was cranking up their feedback in order to get away with a fraudulent sale.

Well normally she is a buyer, probably most of the auctions that don't have links were for NES games or paraphenalia, we won't know since ebay doesn't keep the data past 90 days and she mostly stopped collecting 6 months ago. She has 147 positive feedbacks from 125 unique EBAY members going back to December of 2003, so she probably didn't just set this account up to pull a scam now. Considering she picked the name 'neswoman' over 18 months ago, she probably is into the NES.

That said, with $10,000 at sta

"640 NES games ought to be enought for everyone."
  • As humorous the concept of a zombie astronomer devoting himself to NES games is, it would perhaps be more accurate to call him by his actual name: Mike Krahulik. After all, it's not like he can adopt the persona of a character in his webcomic and claim it for his own, regardless of how he makes news posts in that proxy. Oh yes, and on the subject of such a number of NES games, where would you even spare the time to play them all? It's a trophy collection if anything.
    • Actually, Mike Krahulik posts as Gabe and Jerry Holkins posts as Tycho Brahe FYI. Yeah...I am a fanboy.
      • Well I'll be damned, you were right. Mike Krahulik = artist, and Jerry Holkins = Writer. But, since Gabe was the one who posted about the Omegathon NES Prize, I guess it really was Mike Krahulik.
    • I find what you have to say about referring to the guy from "Penny Arcade" posting under a fictitious name interesting, Doctor Tesla. (Big fan of your coils, btw.)
