Max Payne 3 Announced For Next Winter 73

tordavis writes with news that Rockstar Games has announced Max Payne 3 is in the works for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. It's currently planned for this coming winter. Quoting the news release: "'We're starting a new chapter of Max's life with this game,' said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. 'This is Max as we've never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.' Since leaving the NYPD and New York itself behind, Max has drifted from bad to worse. Double-crossed and a long way from home, Max is now trapped in a city full of violence and bloodshed, using his weapons and instincts in a desperate search for the truth and a way out."

Max Payne 3 Announced For Next Winter

  • I had given up all hope. I am so happy that they are finishing the trilogy.
  • >"...and witness his last chance for salvation."

MP 3 is just a working title, and the release title will be something along the lines of "Max Payne 3: Salvation"...?

Otherwise, #3 would be the end of the series, right? At least until the next time the franchise flatlines, of course.

    • Then they will retool it to- Maxine Payne..Vampire Hunter..now with extra-special bullet time. And some Nazi's.. maybe a super-soldier..oooh a super-Nazi-Vampire-Soldier.. Ok..I now need $500,000 for my consulting services..

When is winter, where is the developer located, it is America or Europe or what, where? Are they in Australia?
Don't you guys class winter as starting on the 22'nd or something whereas down here in Australia we start our seasons at the start of the month for example.
How about you list the MONTHS, not the seasons, it's not hard and I don't have to wrack my brain to translate stuff back into simple months.

When will this dopey, dopey tradition end? It seems to be a North American thing.
The rest of us use months.

      • What is fall, is that a funny name for autumn?
        It's a wank and it's un-necessary, USE MONTHS PEOPLE.

        • Yes fall == autumn. I'm guessing this is the industry way of saying a range of months, rather than "december through april." Along the same lines, maybe they think it makes more sense to the "consumer" than "Q3" 2010.
      • Winter == Summer Spring == Fall

        No, definitely Winter != Summer.

        • Then you're in the north hemisphere of the planet. Enjoy not having your seasons backwards and don't worry you aren't missing out on water spinning the other direction.

This is a stupid argument and is making Slashdot stupider. Slashdot is Taco's Blog. I know this is hard for you to grasp, but if the guy who runs it lives in the USA it's pretty reasonable to refer to things from the standpoint of the USA. All you furriners are obviously welcome to use the thing, and you're even welcome to whine about it, but we're not obligated to care.

That's a bunch of crap. Shit, lots of people in this world don't even know what month they were born in. They might know it was a Tuesday.

well, Remedy is based in Finland and Rockstar _Vancouver_ should be pretty obvious...

Seasons or Quarters are easier to predict than months - software is notorious for slipping schedules.

      • well, Remedy is based in Finland and Rockstar _Vancouver_ should be pretty obvious...

So no matter when it's coming out, I can expect it to be released in winter?

  • This sounds nothing like the last two games! I can't wait! In all seriousness though, I am a fan of the franchise.
  • Max Payne, enjoyed both of'em and have been waiting about *5 YEARS* for Alan Wake. What is the hold up guys? Cause of your lameness, looks like you lost out to develop M Payne 3. Wonderful....

    • by Zixx ( 530813 )

Actually, Remedy sold the rights to Max Payne to Rockstar, back in the day. This allowed them to stay independent and do Alan Wake. They were never supposed to do Max Payne 3.

seems to me this is not the first time Remedy has been late with a game...

let's face it, though - I'm all for the Blizzard philosophy rather than the EA philosophy - I'd rather have the game done right but late than to get a bug ridden game with playability issues on time. I don't mean to smear EA specifically, because a lot of companies do it (actually, nearly all publishers do it), but they are the one I have firsthand experience with.

Hmmm, I wonder how this connects to the alternative ending in Max Payne 2? I was very glad to see that after having fought through all three difficultiy levels, you got rewarded with an alternative ending in which the bullet missed Mona Sax's heart. She doesn't die, they kiss and the whole game ends on a cautiously optimistic tone. I always felt that this was how the game was supposed to end, that this was the ultimate reward for Max: finally a slim chance of happiness. Now they seem to disregard this and cast poor Max once again into darkness and dispair. Hmmm... I don't know...

We all know what they did to Indiana. And we all know what they are going to do to Max Payne.

Enough is enough. I am not going to stand for it.

Next video game should be about corporate douchebags who ruin cultural icons, and how you have to fight your way through their mansion, 'beyond the goblin city', to take back the child they have stolen.

    • Yeah, cause aliens are so much less realistic than the Holy Grail, or the Ark of the Covenant. Oh wait..

The newest Indiana Jones movie was in line with the rest of the series, get over your devoted fanboyism to the originals.

Oh, and stop pretending that new material can somehow "ruin" the old. The original material is always there if you prefer it. Ignore the bits you don't like and be happy, rather than whining to everyone about how XYZ was "ruined". The only way it's ruined is if you allow it to be ruined

  • What in the world are they thinking? The franchise was fun but the movie totally killed this series for many gamers.
    • How so? Tell me, did you return home from the theater only to find that your copies of Max Payne and Max Payne 2 had been stolen from your collection? Did you, upon mourning their loss, realize that you could only think of Nicole Horne as some vaguely cheerful woman to the side and that you had no idea where the name Vlad kept entering your head from?

The series still exists and will exist for a very long time. Your memories still exist, but I can't speak to how long they will last. The movie version

"Max Payne 3 is in the works for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC" Bah, another cross platform game that will have a watered down, naff conrol system on the PC, take up loads of disk space, have lots of slow loading screens, and probably be raved about in the console world for being ground breaking while not actually doing anything new... not that I'm cynical or annoyed with Fear 2 or anything.
    • Both existing Max Payne games were released on consoles as well, and they didn't diminish the quality of the PC release.

      • by raynet ( 51803 )

Atleast the first Max Payne was developed for PC by Remedy and it was then ported to consoles by Rockstar Games. Usually when you have a title that is simultaneously developed for PC and consoles, you end up with PC game that is designed for console controls, if it is FPS, it is way too easy to play with mouse aiming, and texture & graphics quality often tends to be low.

  • Second was a big pile of meh. Quit stripmining the past, people. Come up with a new idea. Max Payne was a new idea, once.

  • The first game is awesome.

It went downhill with the second game and the GBA version. The movie script was just horrible. Where was the mafia and related characters? That was 2/3 of the game. Anyway, I am not very optimistic about this new game, but I prefer to wait and see.

In the meantime I'll keep trying to play the first game using only the baseball bat [pyrosphere.net].

  • Nice to see the real Max Payne is coming back.

Though the wait for Alan Wake as MP3 (heh) had me give up hope with all the talk
of multi processor/threads, high end hardware and other forms of CPU/GPU abuse.
(could almost hear my old Athlon64 3700 whimper at the thought...or maybe that was me)

Not so strangely if MP3 never came out I, and other gamers, would pay quite well
to have MP1's levels converted to run under MP2's engine. MP 2.5, if you will.
