Star Wars: The Old Republic Sarlacc Enforcer Class Unveiled 27

Today BioWare unveiled the most impressive new class yet seen for their upcoming MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. Sarlacc Enforcers are "paragons of patience and planning, always waiting for the right moment to pounce on their quarry – even if it takes one thousand years." Gamespot had an interview with the game's developers to get a clear picture on how such a unique and innovative class was designed. Quoting: "Well, this is a stealth class, so the soloing experience of the Sarlacc enforcer is going to be a little slow. [This character] spends a lot of time slowly sneaking into position before unleashing potent close-ranged attacks, such as 'devour.' But once exposed, the enforcer heavily relies on companion characters to lure enemies close, so he/it can unleash his/its close-ranged attacks. However, the enforcer shines in a group, especially when paired with a Jedi consular that can knock enemies toward him. At this point, the Sarlacc enforcer can use his/its powerful suite of damage-over-time abilities, like 'digest' and 'regurgitate.'"

I was looking for something that would really open up the experience in MMOs. Looks like I found my class.

My mains have always been tanks, and it's sad depending huntards and suicidal rogues, and healers who think they're DPS. Now, I can peacefully wait for my quest targets to walk by or get pushed in by my pet Jedi... and PWNED.

    Sweet.

I wonder if they will allow you play this unattended?

Sony and Blizzard are always busting players for using bots, but this would be the perfect class.

Wouldn't even need bots, just log in and walk away. Check back every couple of days to see how many kills you have had, perfect!

The tough thing, though, is when that prime target you've always hoped for just tumbles right into your gaping maw... and then escapes. And then, somehow, falls in again, and then escapes again... You'll keep thinking you've finally got the perfect chance to pick him apart over thousands of years, that this time your monstrous tentacles and many rows of teeth will keep him from escaping - but somehow, once again, he'll be out. And then one day he'll be gone forever, and you'll be left with an empty feeling inside.

It's hard to be a Sarlacc.

C'mon. If we don't get the pink OMGPonies theme (best yet 4/1 joke), at least throw us a bone with an article about SCO offering new software products.

it's called "global fun". it happens once per year. if you can't feel it, you may want to check that you're not currently rotting inside a sarlacc...

  • So many april fools jokes today aren't all that funny, and are nearly plausible. This one here I would have believed. It wouldn't be hard to make a story about the Sarlacc. Maybe there is more to them than meets the eye. They live for millennia and it wouldn't be that far off base for them to be intelligent. They could control minions to do their bidding.

I read a story (I think it was a short story in "Tales of Mos Eisley Cantina" but I can't remember, it was years ago) about Boba Fett's time in the gullet

You would've believed that an MMO would offer a class that's incapable of movement? Actually, you're right, that's not that implausible..

This would be great. It's like the IRL lardass class. Why do the work when everyone can come to you?

      • Is it any worse than flag capturing? I was working on a computer at a house where they were playing some capture the flag deal in World of Warcraft. It could also be like heading to the demesnes of a powerful sorcerer and before you can even think about slaying him, you have to defeat all his shit.

Head for the Sarlacc (wherever they are stationed), fight evil minions and henchmen along the way sort of thing. It also needn't be the whole focus of the game.

But Hey, I'm way out of my league, for I don't actual

        • by Korin43 ( 881732 )
Ah I see. I think you're missing the part about how by "new class" they mean "new player class". Although, they'd don't explicitly say that. A sarlacc as a boss would definitely be entertaining (and I bet they already exist).
  • Considering Bioware ALREADY said they have announced all of the classes for the game, this was a dead giveaway (as though the name isn't) of an April Fool's joke. I know companies can change their minds, but still... nice one though. I'd love to see how the class hits the whole MMORPG class balancing system for the game. "LF1M SE for Tatooine run. PST!"
