Sony is postponing its PlayStation 5 event that was scheduled for June 4th due to ongoing protests. From a report: "While we understand gamers worldwide are excited to see PS5 games, we do not feel that right now is a time for celebration," says Sony in a Twitter message. "And for now, we want to stand back and allow more important voices to be heard."

There are game companies that give no shits about modern politics and are just doing their own thing. Why not show them some love, assuming this isn't the transparent attempt to rationalize piracy it looks like. Several of them felt that the charge of 3rd-degree murder was too lenient and felt the charge should have been 1st-degree murder. First of all, I don't know what news you're listening to, but most of the mainstreams (ABC, NBC, CBS) and the two left-leaning (CNN, MSNBC) networks have mentioned the lack of masks among demonstrators in almost every coronavirus segment and predicting spikes in about two weeks due to this. Several blue-area mayors have asked demonstrators to get Covid tests during their daily news conferences. Sounds pretty consistent to me.

If this was as important to them as they claimed it was just a few days ago there would be wall to wall coverage about what a public health hazard this was, and it would be by far the DOMINANT theme.They would have jumped on the protestors at least as much as earlier protester and there certainly wouldn't be the endorsements and widespread condoning we see now. Don't try to claim the COVID angle is a major part of the coverage from mainstream networks and supporters now.
Every time I watch coverage it's mentioned about every 30 minutes or so about the social distancing (although I've also more often than not seen most protesters wearing masks, and not the "burn the shit down" kind of masks) as long as the talking heads don't get distracted by something like the CNN lobby siege (that was kind of crazy to watch)

Sony has pretty much nothing to gain by trying to compete with this news and a whole lot to lose. At best they'd be missing out on attention while people are distracted at worst they'd be accused of being insensitive to the situation.
As it stands they bowed out without making a particularly opinionated statement which is about as good as a company can do in the circumstance.

Suppose you don't really care about society. Suppose you don't really care about market failure, or externalities, or whatever else other people have decided to care about. Suppose the only thing that matters is whether Sony sells stuff, and you as a shareholder get PAID. You'd be hard pressed to argue that a launch of the PS5 will get much media attention. The audience is paying attention to a different story-- that they as rational individuals, have decided is more important. Since the whole point of a launch is to garner media attention, it would unwise for a rational firm to compete against a larger, more compelling story.

Actual arrest records show different. Data from MSP arrest records shows 70-80% of those arrested live in Minnesota. Boston Police Commisioner has said most of the people arrested in Boston were either from Boston or Massachusetts as a whole.

There were four from Wisconsin, two from Iowa, and one each from Australia, Nebraska, and North Dakota.
Between noon Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, there were 22 people booked into jail on those charges in the county. Of those, 17 had an address listed in Minnesota, or 77%. There were three from New York, one from Illinois, and one with no address listed. The booking numbers for Sunday night could rise as more data is added into the sheriff’s system later Monday.
That brings the total from noon Thursday through Monday morning to 125 jail bookings on various riot and potentially riot-related charges, with 102 listing an address in Minnesota.

No one has any attention to spare for Sony's marketing event so it just makes sense to wait for a time when people have attention to spare.
