Microsoft Discontinues Xbox One X and Xbox One S Digital Edition Ahead of Series X Launch (theverge.com) 23
Microsoft is officially halting production of its Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition consoles. From a report: "As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we're taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition," says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to The Verge. "Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally." Reports of Xbox One X and Xbox One S shortages have surfaced in recent weeks, and there has been an increased demand in Microsoft and Sony's current-gen consoles during the pandemic. While production is ending on the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S digital edition, it's likely that stock for some retailers will still be available in the coming months. "Gamers can check with their local retailers for more details on Xbox One hardware availability," says a Microsoft spokesperson.

There were i think 4 versions of the xbox one. There was the originally released one.
Later they released 2 more with better specs. The S and the X. The X being the highest spec.
They also released an S without an optical drive at a much reduced price for those only wishing to use the subscription or purchase titles digitally.
It is kind of confusing. Specificallly the branding of the new one makes it even more confusing. (So many x's)

Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X all play the exact same games just at different quality settings with one purchase. They even let you play 1st party games on your PC if there is a PC version for free. You can start playing some games on your Xbox, switch to your laptop, play some more and then pick up where you left off on your Xbox again. If I can buy an Xbox One X at discount and have access to next-gen games today, why would I spend 2X that amount for the new console? Yes it is really more powerful, but I can save my money today, and upgrade two years down the line.
