Netflix Plans To Release 40 More Games This Year, Will Add Monument Valley in 2024 (techcrunch.com) 24

Netflix has announced that it has 40 games slated for launch this year and has 70 in development with its partners. The company also has 16 games currently being developed by its in-house game studios. Netflix launched games in November 2021 and has released 55 titles since then. From a report: The streaming service says it's committed to building out its games portfolio and will be bringing Ustwo's Monument Valley franchise to its platform, starting with Monument Valley 1 and Monument Valley 2, with more to come. In a briefing with reporters, Ustwo CEO Maria Sayans confirmed that the Netflix versions of the games won't be different than the current available versions, and that they will include all paid in-app purchases.

The streaming service also announced that Mighty Quest: Rogue Palace, a rogue-lite game set in the universe some may remember from The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot, will be launching in April 18. The game, which is from Ubisoft, features an improved formula, deepened narrative and upgraded frantic action gameplay. The launch is part of Netflix's partnership with Ubisoft, and is the second of three exclusive games from the developer to be released on Netflix. The first exclusive game, Valiant Hearts: Coming Home, launched in January.

  • You already poisoned this netizen. I want as little to do with you as possible. Don't care.

All FPS style with overlays from their movies. Essentially all the same game.

They've already got a bunch of mobile games released. Good ones. Moonlighter and Arcanium stand out to me, but they're basically just doing the Apple/Android Arcade thing and you get to play stuff in the library. If you already have a Netflix account, it's a nice addition. I don't know that it would KEEP me on the service, but I definitely consider it an excellent value-add.

    • And how does one play a game on Netflix, which has no keyboard, mouse, controller, touch screen, etc?

      • Well...Netflix is just a business name. They have a video app but they also offer access to other apps through the subscription. it doesn't use the Netflix video player app.

        • I could never figure out how to play any of the netflix games. I ended up canceling my subscription after all 400 titles from my to watch list got removed, and they no longer had anything that was of interest for me to watch.

If Netflix wanted rip something off they could have ripped off Spotify platlists and create "channels". Sometimes I just want to watch something but don't want to look through options. If they had channels with a mixture of sitcoms that you could flip through that would be more in line with their business.

    • You're right there is a lot of scope for improvement of their current offerings, I guess earning the big bucks at Netflix doesn't mean they are smart enough to think of these things.

You just invented cable TV. The thing most people actually don't want and are moving away from. These days, when I do want to spend time on television, I'd want to select a show and watch the episodes in-order. Even sitcoms have plots that move forward from episode to episode that require context. Why would I want them all jumbled up?

        > You just invented cable TV.

I just ADDED THE OPTION for cable TV, without commercials. Something people DO WANT.

There's no reason you can't pick exactly what you want AND/OR pick a playlist. This is exactly how spotify premium works.

wrong. many many people want cable tv type offerings, they just dont want to be bundled into 300$ a month plan for it.

I was actually discussing this with my mom the other day. It used to be that if you just wanted to crash on the couch and watch TV you had to watch what was on. It might not be exactly your genre, but it was probably close enough.

Now? Now you only see what you really want. You only watch what is in your comfort zone. If something isn't exactly what you want you just find something that is. And the result is that your boundaries are never challenged. You may be into sci-fi and fantasy, but does that mean you

        • That's heavily personality based. Those same people would just flip channels and never find anything to watch.

Me? I'm watching Korean dramas, MasterChef Mexico, and loving every minute of the variety available. Most of it are things I never would have had access to even on the most expensive satellite packages. I find zero comfort in rewatching shows I've already seen either. So I will still run out of things to watch without branching out.

  • What are the odds that the shows are going to suffer and people won't want to play most of these games?

    • Pretty good I will say. UbiSoft hasn't really put out anything of note lately.
    • What are the odds that the shows are going to suffer and people won't want to play most of these games?

100%. The show 1899 was cancelled, I'm a people and don't want to play any of their games.

I like Christopher Walken. I like Pink Floyd. I have no interest in hearing Walken's guitar-playing nor David Gilmour doing Walken's accent.

Put another way, despite Netfix being "an entertainment company" and both TV/movies and games being entertainment, this isn't a branching-out I want... or will support.

  • Wow guys, lot of negative comments. I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the two Monument Valleys, and hope they make some more.

Check out the Netflix mobile app, the games are pretty good, no ads etc. I let my kids play them instead of the braindead stuff they find on the play store.

  • No Games row in iPhone Netflix App itself, have to do a search then individually download game in App Store. Then asked to sign in when it should know I have Netflix app already...lol. Alot of trouble.
  • Hm, it's really exciting and interesting to me to finally watch some of them in the future as right now I'm quite interested in the upcoming pokemon concierge netflix [raiderking.com] because the teaser looks pretty nice as it seems to me. I just hope that it will be rather fascinating and captivating and what do you think?
