The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Becomes Fastest-Selling Game For Any Nintendo System Ever (venturebeat.com) 25

An anonymous reader quotes a report from VentureBeat: Nintendo announced today that Tears of the Kingdom sold 10 million copies within the first three days of its launch. This makes it, according to the company, the fastest-selling title in The Legend of Zelda series. Market analysis company GfK revealed earlier this week that Tears of the Kingdom had the biggest physical release of any game in the UK in 2023, and the second-biggest launch in UK history by revenue. Link's latest adventure looks poised to break several more records within the next several months. "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is the fastest-selling game in the Americas for any Nintendo system ever, and one of the hottest games worldwide for the Switch," adds Axios. "Tears of the Kingdom is on track to potentially become 2023's best-selling video game."

That and the Mario movie suggest there's a majorly underserved market for family-friendly entertainment.
    • On a Nintendo System? Are you joking?

Was the Mario movie family friendly? There were a lot of complaints about it being woke, e.g. they changed Princess Peach from a damsel in distress into a girlboss.

I'm joking of course. There's plenty of family friendly stuff from Disney and Pixar, it's just not as good.

Mario benefits from appealing to a wider age range too. People who played Mario Bros in the 80s are in their 40s and 50s now. The series has been going for decades and has a massive fan base.

that nintendo sold a zelda game

  • Not surprising. Not many high profile games get high profile releases on the Switch.
This is the biggest in a while.
  • Don't trash it until you play it. A stunning game.
    • Just don't talk about it before daddy 'tendo says you can. What a joke.
Love seeing a company shit on its consumers and they just ask for more and reward them so they can do more shitting.

That's about the only form of entertainment Nintendo produces for me, and it's free.

  • So Breath of the Wild seemed great, despite all its flaws. Now, TOTK, apparently a complete rehash, is just amplifying the bad since there isn't enough fresh anything to distract from it. What am I talking about?

    1. Piano music for everything. I mean everything. Open a pot, beat a mini-boss, enter a shrine, talk to somebody... constant annoying slowpaced piano music. OK, it's no secret that I hate 90% of piano music, but when they use it in place of the old 1980s Zelda sounds, it just grates on every nerve.
