Sony Has Sold 50 Million PS5 Consoles Over Three Years

The PlayStation 5 has officially hit the 50 million sales milestone, Sony confirmed in a blog post. From a report: That's an impressive figure, considering the litany of supply chain issues that kept PS5s in limited supply after its November 2020 launch. And notably, the PS5 manage to reach 50 million sales just a week longer than it took the PlayStation 4, which wasn't bogged down by as many supply chain issues or a worldwide pandemic. Sony has also outsold the Xbox Series X and S by almost three to one this year, the Financial Times reports, based on data from Ampere Analysis.

I had a PS4 until it broke. I'd only bought GTA 5 for it and to this day I've fallen back on my PS3. I don't see a compelling reason to go back to a PS4.

The user experience alone (not even considering the games) would be enough to justify jumping from PS3 to PS5. Once in a blue moon I'll boot up the PS3 and I'm shocked that I once considered that slow, plodding machine to be acceptable.

The user experience is leaps and bounds better now, but we were seriously spoiled by the backwards compatibility in earlier generations. I have some games on PS1 (and PS2) discs that I would still like to play, but I don't want to pay even more subscription fees for that.

I find that the games I like and play most are all on the PS3. Resistance Fall of Man 1 2 and 3, Killzone 2 and 3, Dead Space 1 and 2, and watching 3D movies on PSVR. I just wish that Sony would re-release all of them on PS5 or allow you to play those games on the PS3 while viewing them on the PS5 with PSVR2. Watching 3D movies on PSVR2 without the screen door effect would be awesome.

The first time I played GTA 5 was on a PS3. Stopped playing after waiting for the first mission in LS to reload. PS3 permanently went into a box after that.

That explains why there are almost no discounts for PS5 while the Xbox is on sale all the time. Microsoft is just inept. It's so bad at gaming despite being involved for 20 years it had to spend $100 billion to buy mega companies like activision and bethesda. I seriously doubt they'll ever see a return on all of that.
